Staffreport REDBLUFF The Red Bluff office of the California Highway Patrol will be con- ducting a sobriety check- point Saturday at an un- disclosed location within the unincorporated area of Tehama County. Vehicles will be checked for drivers who are un- der the influence of alco- hol or drugs, according to the press release issued Wednesday. The objective of the checkpoint is to send a clear message to those con- sidering mixing alcohol or drugs with driving that the CHP will be looking for you. "All too often, members of our community are sense- lessly injured or killed on lo- cal roadways by intoxicated drivers," said Lt. Lou Aviles, Red Bluff commander. The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each motorist by target- ing roads where there is a high frequency of impaired driving, according to the release. A sobriety check- point is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations. "If you decide to go out andhave agood time,please be responsible and arrange for a designated driver or alternate transportation before you celebrate," Aviles said. "By publicizing our ef- forts we believe that we can deter motorists from drink- ing and driving." The team's job is to come in, identify and contain the substance and then stabi- lize it before a clean-up company is called out, Ditt said. "Everybody chips in for the cost of it," Ditt said. "It's funded by all the counties and the cost is about 10 cents per resident per year." He was born on July 16, 1949, in Red Bluff, CA, to Sam and Audrey Fox. Steve grew up in the Corning-Los Molinos area where he acquired a love for hunting and fishing. He was a nat- ural athlete and loved football and baseball. He was very proud of his baseball career at Shasta College and Chico State. Steve's love of life was very evident by his many lifelong friends and his uncanny ability to tell a story! Steve never knew a stranger and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him would have a memory of him to share. He is survived by his mother, Audrey Fox, his wife, Mary Jo Fox, daughter Kristina (Robert) Landingham sons: Casey Fox (Amber), and Cory Fox (Megan); stepdaughters: Katie O'Hara, Megan (Alan) Kennedy, Kel- ly (Ryan) Pettit; brothers: Sam Fox, Ron (Deni) Fox, and sister Ellie (Rod) Anderson; also 13 Grandchildren and a large extended family.
