THE IOWA STATE PHI 4 T he men of Iowa Gamma have had a busy spring semester thus far! Here is an overview of a few of our recent successes. Academics Our chapter's GPA for the Fall 2015 semester was a 3.01, and while we met our goal of a 3.0 GPA as a chapter, there is always room for improvement. We are currently ranked 12th out of 30 fraternities at Iowa State University in academics. From last semester's grade report, we have remained in the same place and ranking. Last spring, our chapter was also ranked at 12. We continue to take proactive steps toward our new goal of a 3.10 GPA this semester. Recruitment Iowa Gamma is extremely excited about our spring 2016 Phikeias. Recruitment Chairmen Alex Abate 1901 and Hunter Riedl 1917 have done an excellent job pulling together eight new members for this class. Iowa Gamma's goal for fall recruitment is 30 men. Alex and Hunter look forward to recruiting another great pledge class this fall. If you know any men who you believe would be a great addition to Iowa Gamma, please contact me. Philanthropy Iowa Gamma is continually raising money for various philanthropic organizations. One of our newest philanthropies, Phi D'Elves' Save Christmas! raised more than $1,000 toward Youth and Shelter Services in Ames. Youth and Shelter Services is an organization that provides children with much-needed coats, gloves, toys, and hygiene products during the winter months. One of the biggest philanthropic organizations that Iowa Gamma contributes to is Dance Marathon, which helps children with life- threatening illnesses by providing financial and emotional support to hundreds of families across Iowa. Dance Marathon holds a special place in the hearts of Iowa Gamma Phi Delts. This event is one of the largest and most successful student-run philanthropy events on campus, and was started by an Iowa Gamma Phi Delta Theta member 19 years ago. This year, Iowa Gamma had seven active members on committees. In January, ISU raised more than $362,000 with Iowa Gamma raising more than $9,000. We are also extremely excited to announce that brother Grant Denny 1881, a sophomore in chemical engineering, is continuing Iowa Gamma's legacy of leadership in this organization. Grant was named the general co-director for the 2017 Dance Marathon. Congratulations, Grant! Greek Week & Vespers (Awards) Iowa Gamma had a great showing at Vespers (Greek Awards) this April! Iowa Gamma won the President's Award, which is the highest honor any Iowa State chapter can receive. Patrick Morrison 1894 was named Sophomore of the Year, Austin Javellana 1818 was named Greek Community Member of the Year, and Steve Good 1645 was named Alumnus of the Year by the Greek Alumni Alliance. As a Greek Community, we helped raise $284,002.14 for Special Olympics Iowa! To conclude Greek Week, our pairing received second place in the Lip Sync competition! Alumni Involvement Lastly, on behalf of the chapter, I would like to thank all of our alumni who have contributed toward the renovation of the chapter facility. Iowa Gamma has benefitted greatly in all forms from the contributions that you have given. We continually see massive improvements in regard to our recruitment, as well as the overall impression of the chapter. Looking at how much we have grown these past few years, we're all excited to see how we will apply this growth in the upcoming years.
