Theta Iota Chapter of Delta Delta Delta at Kansas State University

T The breezes are becoming a bit warmer in Manhattan, which signals fun times for the collegiate members of Theta Iota. Spring on campus and at 1834 Laramie means that the days are getting longer, walks to campus are not requiring as many layers of clothing, and spending time on Delta Beach is just around the corner. The House Corporation is scheduling and planning summer maintenance projects and work days. Thanks to routine preventative inspections, we learned that our 40-year-old chiller—which cools the Chapter House during the warm months of the year—has seen its last days and needs to be replaced. The House Corporation knew this situation would soon present itself. We have been saving for this repair for several years, knowing that it would be costly. Plans for a new chiller were originally included in the 2006 capital campaign and renovation, but were eliminated due to inadequate funds. Now, the cost of replacing the chiller will be $76,000. House Corporation members closely follow Tri Delta Executive Office guidelines in managing Chapter House expenses. Of course, the main source of income is the monthly chapter rent. That amount is raised annually by 3-4%. Unfortunately, it is simply not enough to pay for all that an 80-year-old house needs. Last summer's back half of the roof replacement cost $50,000, and significantly set back our savings plan. To pay for the chiller, $15,000 of our chapter improvement fund will be used. We hope that we'll be rewarded with a grant of up to $10,000 from the Tri Delta National Housing Endowment Fund. Because we have no additional options, House Corporation will need to assume a loan to complete this project. It will be a separate loan from the Chapter House mortgage. We are asking for your help; our beautiful old Chapter House needs you. Theta Iota continues to be a top chapter on campus on all levels. Our collegians are proud to call our limestone house their home. But, the cost of maintaining such a large old structure that houses more than 70 young women every year is challenging. Assistance from alumnae is crucial. Your gift toward this latest project would be much appreciated by all who have experienced living at 1834 Laramie, and all who will live there in the years to come. Won't you please consider a contribution to the well-being of Theta Iota? Will you help to maintain the grand structure that was built for Theta Iota and still houses our youngest sisters? Thank you in advance for your support of our Theta Iota and Chapter House. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. As always, our collegians and board members welcome you to back to Theta Iota any time you're in Manhattan.
