Round-Up, Erickson said. "He fits these kinds of set ups like here at Red Bluff because he scores so good. He's a great horse, a good old honest sucker. He gives you a good go every time." In the tie-down rop- ing, Clint Robinson came into the short round in the lead, knowing all he had to do was make a run faster than thirteen seconds to win it. His 11.5 second run wrapped up his win, put- ting him nearly two sec- onds ahead in the average over the reserve champion Stetson Vest. Robinson has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals five times, and at age 33, isn't consid- ering slowing down yet. "I have a few more good years in me, and I'll try to get a few more (National Finals) qualifications," he said. He has competed at the Round-Up nearly every year of his career, and usually his wife and children join him. But his older son, Calder, is in school this year, and they stayed home. "They've stayed home more this year, and it's been challenging, but we make it work." Robinson rode fellow tie-down roper Jerrad Hof- stetter's horse for the run. "I had my good horse out here," he said, "and he was out last year for surgery. The first two rounds, it was a little muddy out here (in the arena), so I didn't want to ride him. Jerrad was good enough to let me ride his, and it all worked out." Barrel racer Taylor Lang- don can thank her win in Red Bluff for vaulting her into the world standings. The Aubrey, Texas cow- girl rounded the barrels in a time of 34.74 seconds on two runs, fifteen-hun- dredths of a second faster than reserve champion Car- ley Richardson. Langdon rode a horse she's only had since Jan- uary. Vegas Firefighter, whose barn name is Vegas, is a six year old mare who "loves the rodeos," Lang- don said. "I couldn't ask for a better partner." Vegas has won her owner checks at every rodeo she's competed at, except for the very first one. They've won in Tucson, Ariz., Graham, Texas, and were champions at Logandale, Utah. Langdon did not plan on rodeoing this year, be- cause her other horse, Bb French Girl, was hurt, and "I wasn't sure I was going to be able to keep running her this year," she said. "I thought I was going to stay home." Vegas has changed all that. "This mare is mak- ing dreams come true. She's been incredible for me." Langdon's win of over $2,000 will move her into the top fifteen barrel racers in the world. Other Red Bluff champi- ons include bareback rider Mason Clements, Sandy, Utah (88 points), saddle bronc rider Samuel Kelts, Millarville, Alberta (84 points), team ropers J.B. James, Jr., Bennett, Colo. and Brock Hanson, Casa Grande, Ariz. (26.5 seconds on four runs), and bull rider Bayle Worden, Charleston, Texas (88.5 points). During the rodeo, which was the annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink event, a VIP rodeo package was auctioned off. Mueller Trucking of Red Bluff pur- chased it for $14,000. The package included Wran- gler National Finals Rodeo tickets, a two night stay in Las Vegas, a transportation voucher, and more. Monies raised during the Round- Up's "pink" campaign go to breast cancer treatment at the St. Elizabeth Imaging Center.
