Chapter Eternal James N. Pepper '69 entered Chapter Eternal on April 11. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, and three sons. He was a resident of Blanco, Texas. Roger L. Short '68 entered Chapter Eternal on March 9. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife, Pat; two daughters, Megan and Allison; and grandsons, Maxell and Zachary. He was a resident of Prescott, Ariz. Alumni News Terry Martin '74, professor of art at William Woods University, was recently named an "Icon of Education" by Ingram's, Kansas City's business magazine. Martin was one of 11 Missouri and Kansas leaders chosen for the honor. In 2002, he was a recipient of the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and in 1990 he received the Louis D. Beaumont/Dad's Association Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching at William Woods University. Terry and his wife, Michelle, live in Jefferson City, Mo. E-mail: terry.martin@williamwoods.edu David Novak '74 will retire from Yum! Brands in May 2016. David was appointed chief executive officer of Yum! in 1999 and has served as chairman since 2000. He transitioned to executive chairman in January 2015. David built Yum! Brands into a global powerhouse and one of the world's largest restaurant companies. He is renowned for Alumni Update creating a recognition culture that rewards for performance, and for coaching and mentoring thousands of executives on leadership skills. During his tenure, the company expanded its footprint in new emerging markets, became the category leader in China, delivered a high return on invested capital, and saw its market capitalization grow from $4.6 billion to approximately $31 billion. David has been recognized as "2012 CEO of the Year" by Chief Executive magazine, one of the world's "30 Best CEOs" by Barron's, one of the "Top People in Business" by FORTUNE, and one of the "100 Best-Performing CEO's in the World" by Harvard Business Review. David and his wife, Wendy, live in Louisville, Ky. E-mail: david.novak@yum.com Nick Vedros '76 created a photo project called "Faces of Change" that appeared at the Kemper Museum for Contemporary Art in Kansas City. The solo exhibition featured 22 portraits of inmates engaged in a rehabilitation project created by the organization Courage to Change. The project aims to document images of the men and women who are actively changing their lives by following the programs, as well as humanize both the initiative and the inmates it seeks to help. Nick launched Vedros & Associates in 1977. The renowned commercial studio boasts a client list that includes Apple, McDonald's, Sony, DuPont, and Sprint.
