A : Unless you count HBO's "John Adams" — which technically was a miniseries, and which earned the actor an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award — the current Showtime drama, which has been renewed for a second season, is Giamatti's first se- ries after much movie work. However, he's made guest appearances on a number of shows over the years, dating back to his role as "Man in Sleeping Bag" on "NYPD Blue." After that, he appeared in such programs as "Ho- micide: Life on the Street," "King of the Hill" (in voice only), "Foyle's War," "30 Rock," "Inside Amy Schumer" and "Downton Abbey." The CW already has renewed virtually every program it currently has for next season — and that includes star and co-cre- ator Rachel Bloom's quirky musical-comedy series. Her Golden Globe and Critics Choice award wins for it ear- lier in the year surely couldn't have hurt. You have to figure the net- work wants to give the show every possible opportunity. Its belief in "Girlfriend" is clearly evident, since it was the one new show The CW put on its fall schedule last year, truly rescuing it from oblivion by ordering it after Showtime (for which it originally was intend- ed) passed on the pilot. Q : Will "Under the Dome" be back this summer? — Margaret Hyland, Macon, Ga. A : No. Basically, when the dome came down, so did the show — and CBS ended it after Season 3, a decision that was announced just be- fore what became the series finale aired. All three seasons of the Stephen King-inspired drama are available on home video. "Extant" also ended its run last year, but among new summer shows, CBS will offer "BrainDead" and "Amer- ican Gothic" — and "Zoo" will return for a second season.
