What is this for?? Last year, the Quartzsite Improvement Associa- tion (Q.I.A.) celebrated their 50th anniversa- ry, and we had the idea to make a Quartzsite 50th Year T-shirt quilt to present them to hang on their wall, but with so much family prob- lems last year it just didn't get done. Next year, we are hoping to have the quilt worked on at the Grand Gathering in March and have con- tacted the Quilt Club in Quartzsite to see if they would participate in Local students excelled in AZ Merit testing Quartzsite T-shirts wanted for special project this venture. Anyone else who quilts can also be a part of it. Most of the quilting can be done ahead and just put together at the Grand Gathering in March, but we need to get the T-shirts as soon as possible so we can cut the squares and have a backing put on so they don't stretch, and then they can be sewn together for the top part of the quilt. Many of the quilters can do this over the summer and fall months so the filling and backing can be put on at the event as a demon- stration. Sounds like a lot of fun, eh? This idea for the quilt is just one of the parts of the Grand Gathering that is being planned for next March. We are also working on plans to put a historical event together on stage showing the history of Quartzsite-- like the cemetery walks have been with some of the same characters and some new ones as well. Should be a lot of fun. Turns out that next year is also the 150th birthday of Quartzsite, so these events will fit right in with any other events that are now being talked about and planned for a big celebration of our town and its history! So, please check out your clos- ets, boxes and drawers and see if you can be part of this quilt we hope to make!! You can drop off any T- shirts at the Reader's Oasis Book- store, Quartzsite Business Chamber of Commerce, or the office at the La Casas Senior and Family housing with Anita.
