"A s I look back on my wedding photos taken 26 years ago, I see my brother, Mike '90, and three other Beta Zeta brothers standing with me," shares Matt Goodnight '82. "I look at Mike's wedding pictures and I see the same thing—Delt brothers. Then, I look at my parents' (George '53 and Ann, Kappa Alpha Theta) wedding album, pictures taken more than 55 years ago, and they too had Beta Zeta brothers standing with them. It is clear that the bond we formed together in college continues in our adult lives." When Matt first came to Butler, he knew he would be joining a fraternity. "Rumor has it that my dad sent a short note to the recruitment chairman and said to send me to the Sigma Chi house. But the comfort I felt during the week of rush helped me see that these people could be friends in the future." Looking at the chapter today, Matt has high hopes for Beta Zeta's future. "I believe that the chapter will remain the best on campus and highly ranked nationally. However, this will only happen if, and only if, the brothers in the chapter today return to give guidance and assistance to future Beta Zeta members." Matt notes that many of the alumni involved with the undergraduate chapter today are from the recolonization era and that in the future, others will need to carry on in their stead. "They volunteer their time because it is the right thing to do and know that others will follow if asked— therefore, today or 25 years from now, come back to Butler and help the chapter that helped you." He encourages everyone to find a way that they can be involved or give back. "We have all received the charge to help those who follow in our steps. Follow through on your oath and give back, whether as a mentor, advisor, or volunteer as an involved alumnus." Matt and his wife, Kathy, live in Fishers, Indiana, and have two children: Jacob and Jenni. He works for YP, an extension of AT&T Yellow Pages.
