The students spent time daily following their portfolios and researching the various options. Davies and Souza won in their category with an ending portfolio value of $107,843. While the extraordinary rise of Apple helped, they also pur- chased Disney, Harley-David- son and Hershey. Flournoy Elementary School students Bowdie Davies (12) and Thalia Souza (13) together took first place in the Intermediate School Category for the Sacramento Region of the Stock Market Game (www.stockmar- ketgame.org). Other teams in the class did well with their investments. The students were recog- nized at a ceremony held in Sacramento on Monday, May 14. "I am very proud of all my students for the way they played this game," Burkhart said. "Thalia and Bowdie worked very hard and researched their choices. They learned a lot and I plan on using this simulation again next year." The Stock Market Game is a program of the SIFMA Foundation and is sponsored by many national and local partners. Students play for either a 10- or 15-week game. In addition to math and com- puter skills, the students prac- tice financial literacy and research skills.
