The 38th Annual Red Hosted by the Contem- porary Historical Vehicle Association's Mount Shasta Region, all owners of street legal cars and trucks 25 years or older are invited to have a relax- ing day in the park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The event concludes with awarding of raffle prizes and People's Choice trophies at about 3 p.m. Food and drink are available on site. The railroad celebration kicks off Railroad Days rolls into Dunsmuir June 8-10 Vintage trains, model trains, a chili Friday evening, June 8, with a preview of the old-time trains from the West- ern Pacific Railroad Museum based in Portola. The next day things get into full swing with a noon parade, River Run, kids' activities, food and crafts ven- dors, and live entertainment featuring Evelyn Horner's Front Porch Swing Band, Ron Lovelace, and Pangia World Music. There will also be two screenings of the hobo documentary, "That's The Ticket Road Hog: The Hobo's Song," directed by Dunsmuir's Bill McIntyre. McIntyre will be on hand to discuss the film, which fea- tures a special appearance by leg- endary folk singer Pete Seeger. Over in the UP railyards, in addi- tion to the old-time trains, there will be rides for kids and adults on speed- er cars and on the old roundtable. Sunday will feature a chili cookoff sponsored by the Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce and more live entertain- ment from the likes of Jimmy Limo, Alison Scull and Victor Martin. Winners this year were Becky Lo, a senior at Corn- ing High School, and Paisley Weigel from Lincoln Street School. Tehama County Superior Court, Family Court Ser- Honorable mention was given to Sophia Gonzalez, from Red Bluff High School. Organizers are thankful for all of the schools that participated and a special thanks to the talented teach- ers — Wes Hendricks, Mendy Beardsley and Chris Byrd — for their support in sharing their students' art with the community. This is the second year the contest has opened up to include the middle and elementary schools, in addition to high schools. However, only the high schools and an elementary school participated. All local schools are invited to participate, and submissions were given to the volunteer judges, led by Gina Setter, court executive officer. The final selections were framed by Dianne Rabalais at The Big Picture to help bring the children's waiting room alive with children's art. Submissions will be accepted on April 23, 2013 for next year's contest.
