Swallowing and speech The Corning Healthcare District announced Dr. Shelly Von Berg from Cal- ifornia State University, Chico is coming to speak at 10 a.m. on Saturday on overcoming difficulties in swallowing and speech, in the Meuser Building at the Corning Healthcare Dis- trict, 275 Solano St. These challenges affect persons with degenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Muscular Dystrophy as well as persons who have experienced strokes or types of brain injury. It will be an interactive class and promises to be a lot of fun. There is no charge for this event, with light re- freshments being served. Montes is a lawyer and former Washington State Administrative Law Judge. He is also a busi- ness development special- ist in Chico. GOP dinner A red, white and blue salute to Tehama County law enforcement is the theme of this year's Te- hama County Republican Party Dinner on Satur- day, at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge, 355 Gilmore Road. No host cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. This year's guest speak- ers are Red Bluff Police Chief Kyle Sanders and Corning Police Chief Jere- miah Fears. Also featured will be K9 unit demonstra- tions. Invited guests include Rep. Doug LaMalfa, State Sen. Jim Nielsen and As- semblyman James Gal- lagher as well as county, civic and local government leaders. Patriotic music and a program honoring law enforcement will be featured. Tehama County GOP will honor its Repub- lican of the Year. A silent auction for a wide assortment of valu- able prizes will be held to support the committee's annual high school schol- arship and the work of the committee.
