TEHAMA DISTRICT FairBoard seeking new CEO By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Tehama County stu- dents came together with special education peers on Friday to cre- ate a special experience in the annual High Hoops Basketball Tournament at Berrendos Mid- dle School. The event, in its ninth year, paired middle school students with 90 to 100 special educa- tion students of all ages from 17 schools to assist them in playing the game, Tehama County De- partment of Education Occupa- tional Therapist Amy Clement said. There were about 250 chil- dren who either played or came and watched the games Friday. "It just keeps getting better ev- ery year," said Jody Johnson. "It's a great opportunity for our kids and its something unique to Te- hama County. The parents get to watch their child in a competitive event and the children get to prac- tice the skills they've learned for the game in a tournament with all the elements you would see at any other school tournament from music to the sound of the buzzer." Johnson, an adapted physical education specialist with the Te- hama County Department of Ed- ucation, founded the event with Clement and in 2013 added the additional component of college awareness.
