Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta at the University of Alabama - Spring 2016 The Katydid ONLY SIX MONTHS LEFT! Campaign to End August 1, Less than $147,000 to Meet Goal 2 015 was a great year for KD and Alabama football. It was also the year we opened the new house. As we look to the rest of 2016, we are having another great semester and Kappa Delta's First Sorority, First Circle…Continuing the Tradition campaign continues to gain momentum. The campaign board is excited to share that our campaign will officially end on August 1, 2016, just in time for fabulous fall recruitment at The University of Alabama. We are just $144,952 away from our $3 million goal. The overwhelming alumnae and parent support is unprecedented and is a reflection of the positive and life changing experiences happening at KD. If you haven't had the chance to participate, it isn't too late to add your name to our growing list of supporters! Diamonds, Emeralds, and Pearls Jewelry Designer Hyla DeWitt Wooldridge '04 Thankful for KD Support J ust like deciding which personal style suits you best, every woman going through recruitment must find the sorority that fits as perfectly as a little black dress. For Hyla DeWitt Wooldridge '04, Kappa Delta was the perfect fit. "I remember the first time I ever visited The University of Alabama—it was Panhellenic weekend," Hyla said. Through a friend of her mother, Hyla was introduced to the women of Kappa Delta. Their presence was welcoming, bringing Hyla out of her comfort zone, and by the end of the weekend, Hyla had met some of the women who would remain her best friends to this day. Beginning as a high school hobby, Hyla's love of jewelry making has become a full-blown career. She has hosted jewelry shows in Charleston, sold her creations in various boutiques, and created custom pieces for each of the bridesmaids in her wedding, as well as her KD sisters. "Fashion is a part of a woman's identity. It is a story of their feelings, personality, and history," Hyla said. "I feel so lucky every day my creations get to be part of that story." Hyla draws a great deal of inspiration for her designs from her Peruvian heritage. "My mother is from Peru, and I have spent considerable time throughout my life visiting family in Lima and Arequipa," she said. The history of the Incan culture is reflected in much of her work. "There is no greater inspiration than experiencing different cultures and backgrounds," Hyla said. She and her husband, Bradley, vowed to make time for travel and to see the world, providing Hyla with constant inspiration. Kappa Delta has been a steadfast support system for Hyla throughout her career.
