Keeping Close with Kappa Alpha Χ Ω 3 Advisory Board Seeks Chapter Advisors for Kappa Alpha I n the fall 2015 newsletter, I reached out to interested alumnae asking them to consider helping our Chapter by volunteering for a position on our Advisory Board. We have 11 positions on the board and have seven vacancies. We have been very fortunate for the past several years to have an 11-member board. This has helped tremendously with work load and time commitment. With only four alumnae serving at this time, these women have had to take on various roles to ensure our board runs smoothly. The relationship, trust, and rapport we have nurtured over the years have been a terrific benefit for both the active members and the advisors. Because the undergraduates have become accustomed to our presence and support, we have worked well as a team to help improve Kappa Alpha's presence on campus, their GPA status, and their attention to Panhellenic, university, and Chi Omega rules and expectations. Our National Headquarters has been assisting us in recruiting alumnae to fill these various positions. Whether or not you have been contacted, I'm asking again for sisters to consider volunteering some time. A strong Advisory Board is crucial to the success of our Chapter. None of these positions are full time and most are called upon only a few times per semester. Those undergraduate sisters voted into a position are well-trained after they are slated, however their tasks can be daunting. For many, this is the first time they have had to lead peers or chair large events. Having an advisor in their corner, to advise and assist as needed helps build their confidence as they hone their leadership skills. As we remind our younger sisters, Chi Omega sisterhood is so much more than just the four years they experience in college—it truly is for a lifetime. Without dedicated alumnae serving nationally, on the collegiate level, and around the world with alumnae Chapters, Chi Omega could not have reached the level of success it enjoys today. If you have questions or think you might be interested in a position, please contact Regional Director Lacey Myers, Epsilon Delta '08, who is heading the recruitment, at lmyers@ chiomega.com. Feel free to contact me as well with any questions. I'd love to talk with you! Thank you for your consideration. Lovingly Yours in Chi Omega, Jill Tobler Erickson '74 xojerickson@yahoo.com Kappa Alpha Celebrates Success and Looks Forward to Future Achievements K appa Alpha continues to put forth diligent efforts toward the betterment of our Chapter. Our scholarship has steadily improved, all philanthropic event proceeds last fall went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and our newest pledge class has started on a positive note. We are excited to see where the spring semester takes us and what we can achieve as a Chapter! STRIVING FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Our scholarship has been improving faster than we could have imagined— our Chapter GPA increased, and we have moved above the all-sorority average. "I think our Chapter is making big changes in how we are approaching our scholarship. Our members are working hard and staying involved on campus, and this is reflected in our Chapter's increasing GPA," Scholarship Chairman Molly Zych '15 said. KAPPA ALPHA WINS SPIRIT AWARD In October, we celebrated our 100th Homecoming! Kappa Alpha won first place in the spirit sign competition, which we credit to Madeline Smith '16, and we can't thank her enough for her meticulous efforts to make the best possible sign. PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS PAY OFF During the fall semester, we started a new philanthropic event called Wish Week. We had three days of events, including Chi O Corndogs, Drive-in for Dreams, and Frats at Bat. The whole week was a huge success and we couldn't be more pleased with how all of our hard work paid off. We raised nearly $4,000 and are really looking forward to continuing this tradition next year. MEMBERSHIP CONTINUES TO GROW In February, we had initiation and were able to initiate all 53 of our new members. Former New Member Educator Mikaela Mitchell '14 said, "I can't wait to see the positive and uplifting impacts these girls will have on Kappa Alpha now and in the future!" ALUMNAE ALWAYS WELCOME During the spring semester, we are looking forward to hosting our sixth annual Chi O Casino, Greek Week events, and continuing to improve our grades as we strive for academic excellence. We love having the constant support of our generous alumnae and always enjoy when they are able to stop by our house. If any alumnae are ever in the area, feel free to stop and meet the young women who are following in your footsteps and carrying on the legacy of Kappa Alpha.
