StaffReports MOUNTSHASTA Thefirstdayof snowboard competition for the California Nevada Interscholas- tic Ski and Snowboard Federa- tion statewide championships was held Wednesday at Mount Shasta Ski Park. The planned two-day snow- board event showcased 65 of the best girl racers and 85 of the best boys from California high schools. The first event Wednesday was a giant slalom on an ex- tremely difficult and challenging run that is over steep, rolling ter- rain. A combination of cold, wind, fog and variable show conditions made the course a truly special race. In the women's giant slalom, Red Bluff High School's lone girl, Ellie Miller, turned in a first- run time of 1 minute, 11.13 sec- onds, putting her in 23rd place. A solid second run of 1:17.43 was good enough to for 13th in that run, but the two times combined placed Miller in the 17th place for the race. Red Bluff had only two boys, se- nior Isaac Molder and freshman Andrew Miller. Molder finished in 21st, posting times of 1:02.37 and 1:09.41, respectively. Andrew Miller finished in 78th place with a combined time of 2:52.92. The snowboard competition was scheduled to conclude Thurs- day with a dual slalom, where two racers are on the course at the same time, but poor weather and snow conditions cancelled the competitions and the cham- pionships ended early. The rodeo was scheduled for Cottonwood, but due to heavy rain and wind, was held in Red Bluff. Results are unofficial.
