ByNancyBenac and Julie Bykowicz TheAssociatedPress MIAMI Abandoning the nasty insults of past debates, Donald Trump and his Republican rivals turned Thursday night's presiden- tial face-off into a mostly respect- ful but still pointed discussion of Social Security, Islam, trade and more. Trump shook his head and declared at one point: "I can't be- lieve how civil it's been up here." Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio didn't hesitate to lay out their dif- ferences with Trump, but the can- didates largely managed to pres- ent those arguments without vit- riol. In a lengthy discussion of the threat posed by radicalized Mus- lims, Trump refused to back away from his recent statement that "Islam hates the West." He said he wouldn't stoop to being "po- litically correct" by avoiding such statements. The crash was a non-injury incident about 12:45 p.m. that caused the westbound lane of 36W, west of Red Bluff, to be temporarily closed, said Califor- nia Highway Patrol Public In- formation Officer Troy Somavia. The CHP website showed Cal Fire was dispatched for medi- cal personnel as a precaution at 12:48 p.m. Thursday, but was canceled at 1:02 p.m. Caltrans was called out about 1:20 p.m., arriving about 1:45 p.m., to activate signs for north- bound and southbound traffic to advise of an extended clo- sure of the westbound lane. De- bris from the travel trailer was blocking the road. The travel trailer was com- pletely destroyed, according to the CHP website.
