B ob Hudson '68 entered Chap- ter Eternal on Monday, De- cember 28, 2015, while vacationing in Paris with his wife, Edith. He was 69 years old. Bob was known around the world for his knowledge of tax law, but he was just as renowned for his pas- sion for philanthropy. That spirit of giving touched many, as he helped the homeless as a board member for Camillus House, and supported the arts as chairman of the Concert As- sociation of Florida and vice chairman of the Perform- ing Arts Center Foundation. Bob Dickinson, board chairman of Camillus, described Hudson as a "multi-faceted diamond. He realized that he was blessed and he had a very good career and he recognized that other men, women, and children were much less fortunate." His friends and colleagues said he loved to dance, knew facts about countless songs, and was a wine connois- seur. Bob was a former president of the Miami chapter of the International Wine & Food Society. "He was so compelling that he could have been the president for life," Dickinson said. As an attorney, Bob made his mark in international tax law and as a managing partner at the firm, a post he held over several terms. "The one thing we all learned from Bob is that by sheer force of will you can ac- complish what you set out to accom- plish, even if there are roadblocks in the way," said the firm's current managing partner, Roy Larson. Shed Boren, the CEO of Camillus House, said the orga- nization will greatly miss him. "From the concert halls to the boardrooms to the court- rooms to the homeless shelters, his life impacted so many people," Boren said. Bob is survived by his wife and two sons, Patrick and Daniel. A Sigma Epsilon Chapter is an organization in the process of fulfilling the requirements to receive a Sigma Phi Epsilon charter. Our charter will be given when the Chapter is ready to submit a petition for its charter and has met mandated criteria. SigEp Headquarters has provided $3,000 for three Balanced Man Scholarships. Response to Austin and Patrick's marketing for scholarship applicants from the UF student body produced 250 applicants. From the applicant pool, they are reviewing each application and selecting the most outstanding young men for interviews. There are two important elements of the Balanced Man Scholarship application process. First, marketing the scholarship program puts SigEp and the Balanced Man Program (BMP) out there for students, faculty, and the public to know that SigEp is coming back. Second, through the scholarship interview process, Austin and Patrick are finding young men with outstanding academic and leadership records; outstanding young men who are potential members of the new colony. The results as of February 28: Membership invitations have been offered to 24 outstanding prospects. All accepted. The average G.P.A. is 3.69. The new members include scholars, leaders and athletes from the freshmen, sophomore, and junior classes. One is a outstanding campus leader and a member of Florida Blue Key. Visit http://goo.gl/hul51R to meet our newest members. Equal rights and responsibilities. Remember: Our Sigma Phi Epsilon founders did not have a pledge process. And, in 2015 it became official when a new section of A New Beginning for Florida Alpha It's Official - Florida Alpha Is Headed Back to the UF Campus (Continued on page 4) Learn more about the Balanced Man Program at www.sigep.org/blog/ BMP-One-Page- Guide.pdf
