TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY SPRING 2016 Preserving Our Past, Foundation for the Future Campaign Raises More than $1 Million T he Gamma Upsilon capital campaign, Preserving Our Past, Foundation for the Future, was officially concluded on December 31, 2015, with a strong surge at the end. With the support of more than 150 participants, our total has reached $1,049,772. The renovations we've done so far to the chapter house have significantly improved the condition on the upper floors of the house, and these funds will go a long way to pay for expenses involved with the project. The donations we received at the end will also help us address some of the living needs on the first floor and the study and leadership spaces in the lower level at a later date. On behalf of the campaign committee, we extend a sincere thank-you for your interest and participation in this worthwhile project. Your contributions and support have given a renewed sense of purpose to Gamma Upsilon, and the undergraduate brothers are very appreciative. The benefits from a campaign such as this are far reaching. Alpha Tau Omega is a strong fraternity at Iowa State University, in large part thanks to your commitments. The connections and reconnections that brothers from all generations have enjoyed are especially gratifying. We have had the opportunity to reconnect with many brothers, hear your stories, come together to celebrate, and continue the legacy of Gamma Upsilon. We wish to thank those of you who assisted with this endeavor as members of the campaign committee, as members of the house corporation, as class leaders, and as someone who just picked up the phone to call a brother you had not talked with in a long time. The connections you likely made are true and lasting gifts. We encourage you to visit the house and share your memories of ATW and your days in Ames. The active brothers love to hear these stories. The major campaign has ended, but your donations and support are always welcome. If you have made a pledge that is not completed, you will continue to receive payment notices per your schedule. It is important that all pledges be fulfilled to maintain Gamma Upsilon's finances and complete our renovations. We are very proud to have been a part of this campaign and we thank you for your participation. Together, we have accomplished a major task. Many thanks to all! Fraternally, William J. Burke Jr. '74, Campaign Treasurer (515) 239-7175 / bill@brkco.com Rolf E. Hansen '74, House Corporation Board (505) 451-6961 / rhansenato@gmail.com Final Campaign Status As of February 15, 2016 $1,049,772 Total Commitments 153 Contributors 18% Participation "I arrived at Iowa State in the fall of 2000 as a shy kid from small-town Iowa who lacked the self-confidence necessary to become a successful adult. Living in the dorms my freshman year, little changed, and I began looking into the Greek system. I still remember walking in the front door of Gamma Upsilon for the first time, and the warm welcome I received from the active chapter. I didn't know it then, but that moment was truly the start of something special. "My three years in the ATW house transformed me into a young man ready to tackle the world. Not only did I become more confident in myself and my abilities, but so too did I become a better man. I learned the true meaning of love and respect, and of friendship and brotherhood. More than 10 years after graduating, my best friends are still those whom I also get to call brothers. "I graduated from Iowa State in 2004, becoming the first person in my family to graduate with a four-year degree. ATW Alumnus Josh Novak '02 Shares His Gamma Upsilon History (Continued on page 4)
