The Manton Music & Arts Council was formed this year to take over managing the Bluegrass on the Hill event due to the annual growth of the event and secure new venues to support the increased number of atten- dees. The council will proceed with providing addition- al fundraising activities to enhance the cultural arts and music education of rural students in the region as gov- ernment funding continues to decline for rural schools. The mission of the organization is to build aware- ness of music and arts education and the importance these programs play in the lives of children, and to pro- vide any funding that area schools may need for enrich- ing extra curricular programs that are being cut by fed- eral and state programs. The council will be available for requests for funding other educational programs, such as sports, technology and multimedia learning programs in the near future for select communities in the surrounding mountain areas that are experiencing funding difficulties in educational programs. The council may be contacted by calling 727-7881 or by mail at PO Box 574, Manton, CA 96059.
