On the second run, Doz- ier posted a time of 45.78, so Sousa knew he had to have a spotless run to win the race. Skiing on the very edge, Sousa made it to the last few gates and missed a hairpin turn, forcing him to have to hike to clear the missed gate. He finished with a combined time of 1:52.16 for 32nd place. Other racers for Red Bluff were Joe Mills in 43rd place, Ryan Mueller in 60th and Noah Fleharty in 69th place. Competition was sched- uled to resume Tuesday with the giant slalom. Alpine FROM PAGE 1 Yet the NFL Network was first to report a five- year, $60 million agree- ment between Osemele and the Raiders which could pay as much as $20 mil- lion in the first year. A year ago, a deal be- tween the Miami Dol- phins and defensive line- man Ndamukong Suh was reported during the nego- tiating period, and the Dol- phins were not penalized by the league. Osemele, who turns 27 during training camp, played 10 games at left guard and four at left tackle in 2015, missing Weeks 11 and 12 with a knee injury. He was widely regarded as the best offen- sive lineman available on the market. At 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, Osemele plays with the kind of power and push which coach Jack Del Rio and general manager Reg- gie McKenzie prefer along the offensive front. The Raiders offensive line play slipped in the sec- ond half of the season in 2015, as quarterback Derek Carr was sacked 23 times in the last eight games and the Raiders averaged 3.3 yards per carry en route to finishing 28th in the NFL in rushing. Exactly where Osemele will play in 2016 is a ques- tion that will be deter- mined by what happens in free agency and the draft. Donald Penn, the Raid- ers left tackle for the past two seasons, is scheduled for free agency Wednesday but wasn't ruling out a re- turn to Oakland in light of the reported Osemele deal. "I've been open with my plan. My plan is to be a Raider," Penn said in a studio visit on the NFL Network. "We're trying to figure out if the feeling is mutual. They tell me it is. They made a great signing, that's a great pickup for Derek Carr and everybody. We're going to see what's going to happen. Only time is going to tell. The good thing is I'm showing inter- est from other teams." Penn, 32, said he hopes to play "two or three" more seasons. He made $9.6 mil- lion over two seasons with the Raiders after being cut by the Tampa Bay Bucca- neers and played all 32 games. If Penn were to return, Osemele would likely move to left or right guard, with incumbent left guard Gabe Jackson also a candidate to move to the right side. Osemele is versatile enough to have started all 16 games as a rookie for Baltimore at right tackle, and then move inside to left guard for the playoffs after Jah Reed was lost to injury. He started all four games in the postseason, which culminated in a win over the 49ers in Su- per Bowl XLVII. In four seasons at Iowa State, Osemele played ex- clusively on the left side, 38 games at left tackle and five at left guard. In 2013, Osemele played in seven games before be- ing sidelined by a her- naited disc in his back. He missed the remainder of the season on injured re- serve. The Raiders, with more than $60 million in sal- ary cap space, were also reported to be in negotia- tions with Denver end Ma- lik Jackson, who reportedly reached an agreement on a six-year deal with Jackson- ville that included $42 mil- lion in guaranteed money and could reach $60 mil- lion. Other players linked to the Raiders through the negotiating period in- cluded Kansas City cor- nerback Sean Smith and running backs Doug Mar- tin (Tampa Bay) and Chris Ivory (New York Jets). Raiders FROM PAGE 1 kins (Rams), Prince Amu- kamara (Giants), Pacman Jones (Bengals), Leon Hall (Bengals), Casey Hayward (Packers) and Nolan Car- roll, who developed into a starter under Kelly last season with the Eagles. Seemingly beyond the 49ers grasp are Josh Nor- man and Trumaine John- son, who got hit with the franchise tag by the Caro- lina Panthers and Los An- geles Rams, respectively. Last season, Tramaine Brock and Kenneth Acker primarily served as the 49ers starting cornerbacks. Each totaled three inter- ceptions, while the rest of the defense combined for only three. Acker's starting job was bequeathed the final two games to Dontae Johnson, a fellow product of the 2014 draft class. Johnson was a fourth-round pick, Acker a sixth-round selection, and selected between them in the fifth round was Keith Reaser, who saw scarce action after sitting out his rookie year because of a knee injury. The 49ers ranked 27th against the pass (261.2 yards per game) last sea- son; Kelly's Eagles were 28th (267.1). Kelly is well aware of the defensive struggles the 49ers faced in the wake of losing so many players last offseason. That included the retirements of Patrick Willis and Justin Smith, but also the free agency ex- its of starting cornerbacks Cox and Chris Culliver. "You look at that (for- mer) defense and there were some outstanding players. Now they're all gone," Kelly said at last month's scouting combine. "So you look at how did they replace them. There's some really good young tal- ent on the team." Baalke claims the 49ers were the eighth-youngest team, and they certainly didn't get the help needed from several free agent ac- quisitions. Wright, defen- sive tackle Darnell Dock- ett and linebacker Philip Wheeler — their top de- fensive free agents — didn't even appear in a game. "Last year's free agency wasn't good enough," Baalke said earlier this offseason. "But, we've also had some really good years in free agency and we've had some really good drafts. So, you learn from everything you do in this business and that's all I hope to do is learn from it and get better." • Linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong, claimed off waivers from the Raiders in November, re-signed on a one-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. In five games last season as a special-teams player, Armstrong totaled as many tackles as penalties (three). 49ers FROM PAGE 1 Scoreboard Baseball SPRINGTRAINING AMERICAN LEAGUE W L Pct Toronto 6 1 .857 Texas 5 1 .833 Chicago 4 1 .800 Houston 5 2 .714 Boston 4 3 .571 Minnesota 4 3 .571 Detroit 5 4 .556 A's 3 3 .500 Seattle 3 4 .429 Tampa Bay 3 4 .429 Kansas City 3 5 .375 Los Angeles 3 5 .375 Cleveland 2 4 .333 New York 2 5 .286 Baltimore 0 8 .000 NATIONAL LEAGUE W L Pct Washington 6 1 .857 Los Angeles 4 1 .800 Cincinnati 4 2 .667 Milwaukee 4 2 .667 St. Louis 4 2 .667 Philadelphia 5 3 .625 Arizona 4 3 .571 Colorado 4 3 .571 New York 3 3 .500 Giants 3 4 .429 Miami 2 4 .333 Atlanta 2 5 .286 Pittsburgh 2 5 .286 San Diego 2 5 .286 Chicago 1 6 .143 NOTE: Split-squad games count in the standings; games against non-major league teams do not.
