FEBRUARY 3 - 9, 2010 UCW 11 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Some people are known for saying the things that everyone else is thinking but are afraid to say. In a free and unrestricted way they have no qualms with telling the truth, whether it's brutal or not, without so much as a fl inch. Love them or hate them, these types of people receive a high level of respect because even though the truth hurts, it keeps others connected to reality which many secretly appreciate. Audiences have come to learn that it doesn't get more real than Madea. Tyler Perry is back as Madea with a talented cast for his fi rst stage appearance in fi ve years. After gracing the silver screen while achieving Hollywood blockbuster status with comedic and inspirational movies such as Madea's Family Reunion and Madea Goes to Jail, the cast returns to the place it all started — center stage. Staying true to Perry's passion to inspire positive change in the community by tackling social issues in an entertaining way, this story addresses the importance of strong family ties and unconditional love for people the people who are a part of our lives. This time, Madea and others come together after a family member announces that she has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Each person brings his own bit of drama that begins to collide with the complex situations of the others who have gravitated to the same place to be supportive of their dying relative. During a time that they are supposd to be pulling together to rekindle the love and family values, complications arise out of selfi shness, poor conduct and special needs. This brings Madea to the forefront as she takes charge of the situation in a way that only she can; integrating her unapologetic way of telling it like it is with the powerful love and concern of a matriarch. "Loved it. This play made me laugh so hard I cried. Tyler Perry was excellent. The singing was amazing and the acting, perfect. The only problem with this play was.....I wanted more!" posts a reviewer on Tickmaster's Web site after seeing the production in one of 50 cities the show has traveled to during this exciting tour. People of Fayetteville and surrounding areas who want to be uplifted and entertained can seize the opportunity to experience Madea and company as they send a message to the audience — that the truth doesn't always hurt, sometimes it's hilarious! Tyler Perry's 12th stage play, Madea's Big Happy Family is coming to the Crown Coliseum on Saturday Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. For tickets and more information, call 910-438-4100 or visit www. atthecrown.com.
