T he Greek community is unique in that it prepares men and women for real-life experiences from day one. In recruitment you learn the art of active listening, conversation, and interviewing skills. During the first year of membership you learn how to become part of a larger organization, how to work in a team, and how to begin developing your leadership style and skills. The rest of the years teach you about conflict resolution, how to run a business meeting, holding people accountable for their actions, how to rise to an occasion during difficult situations, and how to become a true leader of your peers. These are skills that Jackie Quinn '80 credits to helping her land her first job after college. Tau Chapter provided Jackie experiences that made a large impact in her life and career, which motivated her support the Anchored in Tradition, Securing Our Legacy campaign. "When I went through recruitment, it became clear the only sorority for me was ΔΓ," shares Jackie. "I felt it was the only Chapter where differences were celebrated. I truly believe I owe getting my first job because of the interview experiences and leadership opportunities the Chapter afforded me." Ensuring these opportunities continue for future members was just one of the reasons that Jackie felt motivated to support the campaign. "The other driving factor for my contribution was the memories I made with my ΔΓ sisters," shares Jackie. She recalls disco dancing in the living room, studying in the cafeteria until 3 a.m., and the thousands of conversations with her Tau sisters. "It is important that as alumnae, we help create a place to nurture and support members in their pursuit of their dreams and as they make their own lasting memories." Today, Jackie is a SVP at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, where she utilizes the confidence and self-assurance she found in ΔΓ every day. She lives in Johnston, Iowa, which at times can make it difficult to remain involved with Tau Chapter. "Unfortunately, time and distance always impact friendships, but the connection and how the chapter and my sisters positively impacted my life is always there. I will never forget my time in the house or the friendships we created." You can connect with Jackie at ibiketheworld@mchsi.com.
