After all, you need a good winter coat in Can- ada. Though Bryant proba- bly wouldn't be too unhappy walking away with another All-Star Game MVP trophy. The final NBA showcase for Bryant and the first to be staged outside the U.S. is in Toronto, the city that staged the first NBA game 70 years ago and is so enthusiastic for basketball now that it could no longer be ignored no mat- ter what the thermometer says. I think they'll be a great host and I think guys are going to have a lot of fun. It's going to be cold." Frigid, actually. The finish was quite spec- tacular once again for the Bob- cats as senior 220-pounder George Heinrich notched the fastest pin of the night, forc- ing Mark Sulzar to the mat in 52 seconds and helping Para- dise grab its first lead, 36-32. Fellow senior Ricky Kirk followed up by simply accom- plishing the goal of not getting pinned, as the Paradise heavy- weight lost a 5-2 decision to James Touros, but preserved the second straight one-point victory for Paradise, 36-35 over Red Bluff to wrap up EAL dual season for both teams. "Well, I knew right away I couldn't get pinned, I just had to out-last the match," Kirk said. Red Bluff (2-3 EAL) and Par- adise (19-5, 6-1) join league foes Pleasant Valley, Enterprise, Shasta, Foothill and seven- time defending champion Chico at the EAL team cham- pionships Saturday morning at Chico High. Staff Reports REDDING The Lady Spartans played to a 1-1 tie Wednesday night against the Enterprise Hor- nets on the road. Red Bluff's score came from Ceighlee Fennel, who made three shots on goal. Karissa Mena was credited with the assist. Maya Cruz, Rosy Alfaro, Mena and Christina Zumalt each took two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Grace Thornton had eight saves. The Spartans (9-9-4 overall, 2-7-2 league) are scheduled to close out their season at 4 p.m. today against the Paradise Bob- cats (13-1-5 overall, 5-1-5 league) in Paradise. CARDINALS 0, YREKA 0 The Lady Cardinals took a scoreless tie at home Tuesday afternoon against the Yreka Miners. Vanessa Aguirre led the Cardi- nals with six shots, followed by Anissa Munoz and Nicole Curiel with four each. Jasmine Damian and Masiel Anaya each had seven steals and Alisia Valdovines had five steals. Freshman goalkeeper Anna Reynolds had 19 saves in the game and is credited with the scoreless tie. The Cardinals (7-9-1 overall, 4-4-1 league) were scheduled to face the Lassen Grizzlies (7-8-3 overall, 5-2-2) on Thursday after- noon to close out the regular sea- son. GIRLS SOCCER Spartans tie with Hornets, Cardinals take scoreless draw Staff Reports RED BLUFF The Spartans boys' soccer team bested the Enterprise Hornets on Wednesday evening in a home game. Red Bluff's score came in the second half, but as of 4 p.m. Thursday no individual stats had been posted for the game. The Spartans (7-11-2 overall, 2-7-2) are scheduled to close out the regular season at 6 tonight in Paradise against the Bobcats (9- 8-1 overall, 4-6-1 league). CARDINALS2,YREKA2 The Corn- ing Cardinals played to a 2-2 tie at home Tuesday afternoon against the Yreka Miners. Goalkeeper Freddie Torres was named player of the game and was credited with five saves and the tie. Raul Arent and Felipe Arballo each scored for the Cardinals and Arent had an assist. The Cardinals (14-3-3 overall, 7-0-2 league) sat atop the North- ern Athletic League standings heading into a Thursday evening match against the second-place Lassen Grizzlies (6-8-3 overall, 5-2-2 league) in Susanville. WILLOWS 4, BULLDOGS 2 The Los Molinos Bulldogs fell Tuesday af- ternoon to the visiting Willows Honkers 4-2 to close out the reg- ular season. As of 4 p.m. Thursday no indi- vidual stats had been posted for the game. The Bulldogs (11-7-2 overall, 6-2-2 league) lead the Sac Val- ley North League in goals scored with 37 and finish in second place. Jose Gonzalez finished the sea- son at the top of the points and goals categories with 111 and 50, respectively. He was third in as- sists with 11. Jose Muniz led in as- sists with 17, was second in points with 39 and fourth in goals with 11. COLUSA7,WARRIORS0 TheMercy Warriors took a road loss Tues- day afternoon to the Colusa Red- hawks 7-0 to finish the season. The Redhawks scored three goals in the first half and four in the second, but as of 4 p.m. Thurs- day no individual stats had been posted for the game. The Warriors (0-12 overall, 0-10 league) finish the season at the bottom of the Sac Valley South League standings. The deal also in- cludes options for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Raiders owner Mark Davis said at the press conference. "It's a great day for Oakland," said Councilmem- ber Larry Reid, chairman of the Oakland-Alameda County Coli- seum Joint Powers Authority, the entity that oversees operations at the coliseum complex.
