ByStephenWhyno TheAssociatedPress WASHINGTON Stephen Curry scored 36 of his 51 points in the first half to offset a monster of- fensive game from John Wall and the Golden State Warriors pulled away to beat the Wash- ington Wizards 134-121 Wednes- day night for their eighth straight victory. Curry made 13 of his first 14 shots and finished 19 of 28 from the field and 11 of 26 from 3-point territory. His 11 3s tied a career high. The defending-champion Warriors (45-4) continued on their run by tying the 1966-67 Philadelphia 76ers for the best 49-game start in NBA history. Along with Curry's 51, Klay Thompson scored 24 points and Draymond Green had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Wall led the Wizards (21-26) with 10 assists and his season- best 41 points. Curry made his first six shots from the field, including his first 5 3-point attempts, and finished the first quarter with 25 points on 9-for-10 shooting. The War- riors led 43-28 after the first and let the lead slip to nine with Curry on the bench for the first portion of the second. Back on the floor, Curry just kept scoring. By Rick Silva rsilva@paradisepost.com @Post_RickSilva on Twitter PARADISE The Paradise High varsity girls basketball team may be struggling to get wins this year, but the Bobcats are looking to improve on the lit- tle things as the season goes on. The Bobcats lost their 13th straight on Tuesday night in a loss to visiting Red Bluff 51- 30. It was the fourth time Par- adise has lost to the Spartans this year. Bobcat coach Erika Etchison liked the way her defense com- peted on Tuesday night. "That was some of the best defense we played all year," she said. "Our three posts killed it defensively." Had the Bobcats (3-17, 0-8 Eastern Athletic League) won the game, they would have moved into a seventh-place tie with Red Bluff. The win moved Red Bluff to 2-6 in league and 8-12 overall. "I was really happy with a lot of the passing," Spartan coach Kathy Brandt said. "Good ball movement against the zone, in the second half more than the first, we're able to knock some shots down." Red Bluff took a 13-4 lead late in the opening quarter, thanks to some offense from freshman Jessie Miller, who scored five points in the quarter. But the Bobcats, who have been struggling on offense, found a nice rhythm against the Spartan man-to-man defense to open the second quarter. Kenzie Severe (four points) and Maizie Limbaugh (six) led the Bobcats on a 10-0 run to open the period and take a 14- 13 lead. Brandt called a timeout and moved them into a zone. "We had to get going defen- sively," she said. "We weren't switching properly and we gave up six quick points." While the move worked out for the Spartans, the Bobcats did not react well to it. "We recognized it, but what happens with us against a zone is we stand around," Etchison said.
