By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer Contrary to the weather Monday while vendors were starting to set up, the weather was perfect Wednesday for the opening day of the trade show at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale. "The weather is good, which is a plus," said Mau- reen Bonessa of Red Bluff. Bonessa said she tries to shop the first day of the sale because it is less crowded, however, with the better weather the show was busier than usual. Carlos Duarte of Carlos' Silver out of Roseville said he, too, said Wednesday seemed busier than usual, however, the busiest night is usually Friday. Duarte, a silver smith for the last 35 years, has been coming to the show for about 20 years. Bonessa said she has been coming for about the last 20 years as well and always stops in to see Duarte. "I buy something every year from Carlos," said Bonessa, who is an avid horsewoman and competes at several local shows. "He always had something new." Both Bonessa and Duarte said the show is def- initely good for the econo- my with all the people it brings to the area. "Even last year when the economy wasn't good it was busy," Bonessa said. "There were people wall to wall." Allie Arrowsmith of Red Bluff said she enjoys attend- ing the show and the chance to look at a variety of items. "There's something here for everyone, even if they're not into horses," Arrow- smith said. Jan Sundborg of Jan's Custom Tackle has been coming from Sonora for about 20 years. While the improving weather may have brought more people, Sundborg said the weather wasn't a major factor at the show. "They would've come even if it rained," Sundborg said. "Everybody's busy today getting animals ready. It'll be better tomorrow and Friday and Saturday will be better days." Sundborg likes the fact that she gets to see alot of the same people every year, many of whom she only sees once or twice a year, she said. "I like talking to people," Sundborg said. "I really don't know any strangers." Cynthia and Mike Foer- ster have been away for a few years and came to help their friend who was mak- ing his debut with his new business Danny's Dogs. The Red Bluff couple ended up staying to look around. "We've been having a blast looking through jewel- ry," said Cynthia Foerster. Mike Foerester said he enjoyed wandering around the show for the variety of items it had to look at. Vendor Margot King was in her third year of being at the show, but for her the event was mostly about promoting her busi- ness. While her booth had mostly jewelry, King said her store, in Anderson, has a lot more for people to look at, including a thrift section with cowboy boots and Western wear and a section dedicated to books. The show, between the Don Smith and Pauline Davis pavilions at the Tehama District Fair- ground, runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
