ByHeatherHoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale gelding trials were held Thursday and Friday in the Pauline Davis Pavilion at the Te- hama District Fairground, where the audience and prospective buyers were introduced to the 100 par- ticipating horses before the 54th Annual Gelding Sale. The horses showed off their talents Thursday in three stages of the trials. The first was the dry run where the horse showed off its form, then the horses went through trail obsta- cles where they showed their abilities to jump and run. BULL SALE By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF Hundreds of people have come to check out the art exhibit for the Western Art Show at the Red Bluff Bull and Geld- ing Sale since it opened Wednesday with at least 150 attending the spe- cial art and wine show- ing Thursday — organiz- ers ran out of the 150 cus- tom Bull & Gelding Sale glasses for the event by a little after 7 p.m. "It was a really nice event and Raley's put out a good spread," said show manager Jane Daugherty. "We also had Bursini Vineyards there." The show, which fea- tures all original art work, has about 125 art- ists ranging from near to far with about 30 lo- cal pieces from the Te- hama, Shasta and Butte counties areas, Daugh- erty said. Prices ranged from $100 to as much as $8,000. Some items not sold will be on display at the Tehama Country Vis- itor Center on Antelope Boulevard. David Belongie, who won first place in silver division for his halter, is from Shingletown. "I've been a profes- sional jeweler for 22 years now," Belongie said. "I've been doing what I grew up with, creating hal- ters, for about five to six years now. I grew up on a quarter-horse ranch in the Church Creek Bottoms (in Redding)." Marjorie Raymond of Red Bluff was very taken with a pastel portrait of a bull done by Kathleen Dar- ling of Corning, she said. "I love the shimmery look she gets," said Ray- mond, a fellow artist. "Usually pastels look muted, but it has a glow. He's a thinker. He has this look that says I know what you're thinking." While Raymond does not have a piece on display this year, she is planning to show next year. James Lemon of Prinev- ille, Oregon said he found a statue of a bull called Herd Sire by Scott Scherer of Black Hills, South Da- kota fascinating. "I like it because it's three - d imensiona l," Lemon said.
