ByHeatherHoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews. com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The 2016 Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale held the Stock Dog trials Wednesday in preparation for the Purina Pro Plan 38th annual Red Bluff Stock Dog Sale to take place at 3:30 p.m. today at the Don Smith Pavilion at the Tehama Dis- trict Fairground. The final round of the stock dogs working with their consignor is at 1 p.m. in the field next to the Trin- ityAvenueparkinglotbefore the sale. There were five judges at the trials Wednesday who were looking at how well the stock dogs were able to herd the cattle into a pen. Out of the five scores the highest and the lowest scores are dropped and the remaining three scores are averaged. The judges look at how well the dog can stop the cattle and gather them into the pen, the obedience of the dog, the partnership with the owner and the way the dog works with the range horse, said consignor and trainer Robin Brown, of Mesa, Idaho. Brown said she is happy to be at the sale this year with her border collie named Dozzer. Brown has been com- ing to the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale for more than 15 years. Her goal is to al- ways try to bring good qual- ity range dogs that preform well at home, Brown said. Brown has 30 years expe- rience training dogs and is a two-time National Cattle Dog Champion. "Dozzer is a nice dog to be around," Brown said. "He has often worked and handled cattle on the West Mountain Forest range in central Idaho." Brown prepared Dozzer for the event by socializ- ing him well, working with the team, including her and her horse, and taking trips to the mountain to learn to gather and fetch cattle, she said.
