Basketball FROM PAGE 1 out of it. "Unfortunately there were some, in those times, those days, rumors, some talks, some people were going around. They were dealt with. In the last six, seven years, I haven't heard anything similar." Djokovic was an up-and- coming player at the time, not winning the first his 10 major titles until the 2008 Australian Open. "It made me feel terrible because I don't want to be anyhow linked to this kind of — you know, somebody may call it an opportunity," he said. "For me, that's an act of unsportsmanship, a crime in sport honestly. I think there is no room for it in any sport, especially in tennis." Djokovic said he thought the allegations related to matches from almost 10 years ago and didn't in- volve active players. Roger Federer, a 17-time major winner and former leader of the player coun- cil, agreed the allegations likely weren't new but re- mained "super serious." "I would love to hear names," Federer said. "Then at least it's concrete stuff and you can actually debate about it. Was it the player? Was it the support team? Who was it? Was it before? Was it a doubles player, a singles player? Which slam? "It's super serious and it's super important to maintain the integrity of our sport. So how high up does it go? The higher it goes, the more surprised I would be, no doubt about it." It's the weather. But you've got to take your job serious, first of all. You're a football player first, and all that other stuff comes sec- ondary." Everett settled in South- ern California after his NFL career, and the Rams' start- ing quarterback from 1986- 93 greeted Rams executives at their official return last week in Inglewood. He has never stopped signing auto- graphs with an "LA Rams" postscript. "When I was playing, we had the Lakers with Magic Johnson, we had the Dodg- ers, and LA loves champi- ons," Everett said. "There's high standards, and the Rams are taking a big bite of the pie by moving here. They understand that level of expectation is going to go way up for all of us." Dickerson spent the Rams' return week in Or- lando playing in the in- augural Diamond Resorts Invitational celebrity golf tournament, a $500,000 event supporting Florida Hospital for Children. Dick- erson finished just behind former Raiders running back Marcus Allen and well behind winner Mardy Fish, the former tennis pro. But Dickerson's thoughts were never far from the Rams. Although he made frequent appearances in St. Louis to support the franchise, he firmly be- lieves the Rams never should have left — and he can only shake his head at what might have been. "Imagine the Rams play- ing in LA when they were the 'Greatest Show on Turf,"' Dickerson said, re- ferring to the Super Bowl- winning St. Louis team. "They would have had to go from practice to the studios to do movies. Ev- erybody loves athletes. Ac- tors want to be athletes, and athletes want to be ac- tors. I hope it becomes like that again." The Rams have some work to do first: They haven't made the playoffs since the 2004 season, and they haven't had a winning record since 2003. Although they've shaken off the worst five-year stretch in NFL history with just 15 wins from 2007-11, they've had nine straight losing seasons heading back to Los Angeles. Although Warren Beatty played a Rams quarterback in the famed 1978 comedy "Heaven Can Wait," the Rams' popularity in Holly- wood during their first 49 years in town was limited by their relatively modest success, reaching the Su- per Bowl just once. "You've got to win," said Dickerson, whose Rams made the playoffs in each of his four full seasons. "Com- ing back is one thing, but you've got to put a winner on the field." Rams FROM PAGE 1 and charged into Harrison Barnes, flattening the War- riors forward. Smith, who arrived at the arena less than an hour before tip-off, was called for a Flagrant 2 foul and ejected. Soon af- ter, James was whistled for a technical after he tangled with Golden State's Festus Ezeli. Draymond Green added 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the War- riors. Curry quickly reminded an amped-up Cleveland crowd what he did to the Cavs last summer by bury- ing a 3-pointer on his first shot. He made three more long-range shots in the first quarter while the Warriors opened a 34-21 lead. Golden State was just warming up. Green's 3-pointer put the Warriors up by 16, and Curry scored a three-point play to give Golden State a 23-point lead, triggering some boos directed at the home team. On Cleveland's next pos- session, James was back- ing down in the lane when Curry came up from be- hind, stripped the ball and went the length of the floor for an easy layup to make it 57-32. Curry was on the bench with his third per- sonal foul when Green drained the Warriors' 10th 3-pointer to push their lead to 30.
