Page 3 New Academic Requirements and Leadership Roles Sets Gamma Zeta up for Success Lambda Chi Alpha Membership One of Largest among Mizzou Fraternities I t is my pleasure to report a successful start to the 2015-16 school year. Your generosity and support have been as palpable as ever this semester, and the chapter and I deeply appreciate it. It has fueled the chapter's enthusiasm to vault into another successful semester. AcAdemics on the rise I expect the chapter to continue with last year's historic success in academics. Last spring, the chapter boasted the highest GPA we have had in recent history, and passed a motion to further challenge ourselves and raise our minimum GPA requirement to a 2.6. The fall semester was the first that the requirement change was in effect. The periodic grade checks we conduct on underclassmen have given me nothing but confidence in the chapter's future academic leadership. 45,000 pounds of food for feeding AmericA Last fall, Gamma Kappa Zeta once more hosted the annual Watermelon Fest, with attendance from 13 sororities and a record 450 participants. The event raised roughly 45,000 pounds of food for Feeding America. We are proud to help out our community in this way. gAmmA KAppA is over 140 men strong Our recruitment efforts have shown progress as well. When summer recruitment came around in June, we were faced with the largest pool of interested men we've ever seen. In my opinion, this is a testament to our respected reputation on campus; positive word of mouth reaching young men who have no prior connection to our members, before they even step foot on campus. We signed a fall associate member class of 43 fine young men. We have used this enormous recruitment pool to strengthen our ties to Chicago and other out-of-state areas, while Our volleyball team took first place in Greek league volleyball! The chapter now sits at more than 140 members, one of the largest on campus. memBers And Alumni enjoyed homecoming 2015 Last year's Homecoming was the most enjoyable I've had here at MU, despite the football team's dismal performance on the field. Our chapter was paired with Phi Mu sorority and Alpha Chi Rho fraternity, a newly colonized chapter on campus. Enthusiasm from the chapter was high from the get-go, and the men were eager to outdo themselves. We received numerous compliments on our float and skit, including some from MU faculty who said they were the best they'd ever seen. It was a pleasure hosting alumni for tailgates all season, and our Homecoming tailgate had outstanding attendance. Your support was truly felt. Unfortunately, our pairing did not place in the top five, but our chapter stood by our work all the same. memBers thrive in cAmpus orgAnizAtions Individual members of the chapter continue to forge a good reputation on campus through their own involvement. Marshall Rosga '13 has now completed his term as Interfraternity Council vice president of finance and records. Clayton Siems '15, Sean Vogt '15, and Stephen Petralia '15 currently serve as IFC peer educators, educating fraternity men about masculinity, leadership, and risk management. Jacob Scholl '13 ushered new students through Mizzou's doors as a summer welcome leader last summer. I was honored to receive the 2015 IFC Man of Value award in November. The award is given to a fraternity man who exemplifies IFC's four core values: scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood. Additionally, over a dozen members of the chapter embarked on service trips throughout the country in January as members of Mizzou Alternative Breaks. (Continued on page 4)
