Hearing set for Bend school consolidation By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer Bend School District will hold a public hear- ing at 5 p.m. today regarding a request, approved March 8 by the California Department of Education, to be annexed into the Ever- green Union School Dis- trict. "Overall, we believe this is a very positive move for both districts," said Bend Superinten- dent/Principal Roxy Williams. "Bend will be a small school option in a larger district and the larger district will pro- vide programs and ser- vice not available or practical at smaller schools." said. "Over the years, our funding has decreased and continues to decline to the point that we were deficit spending and on a three- year projection toward a negative fiscal status. Both district leadership teams agreed early on that this move was not only financially sound, but would also result in benefits to the students." An area check was made and officers found Ricardo Gonzalez, 26, and Jorge Marcos Peralta, 24, both of Corning, nearby at a residence in the 1700 block of Solano Street. The two men were drinking beer and barbe- cuing frozen fish that had been stolen from the building, according to a press release release. The restaurant owner met with the officers and was able to identify the stolen property, which was recovered.
