This final piece makes no argument; it simply demonstrates the power of a covenant of life. Here at CareNet Pregnancy Center and Medical Clinic we are excited about what God is doing at our Redding and Red Bluff Centers. Our Red Bluff Center opened in 2005 and we are amazed at the tremendous growth happening there. And in Redding, not only did 2009 mark our 25th year as a pregnancy center in Shasta County, but also it is the first year that we are operating fully as a limited free clinic. All of our services are free and per- formed by licensed and trained volunteers who generously give of their time and skills. When this time of year comes around in which we celebrate Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, I am brought to a standstill as I ponder the meaning behind the term chosen for the day. "Sancti- ty" as defined by Google.com/Dictionary means: 1: holiness of life and character: godliness and 2a: the quality or state of being holy or sacred: invi- olability 2b: plural: sacred objects, obligations, or rights. CareNet is not only dedicated to the sanctity of life for the unborn, but to any man or woman who is involved in an unplanned pregnancy—to be able to help them in a physical way as well as to minister to their spiritual need with the gospel of Love. Our Clin- ic ministers free testing and treat- ment for STDs as well as first trimester care to those who are eligible. We are unified in the belief that it is our sacred obliga- tion, and the sacred right of those we administer help and healing to, that they should be given every opportunity to be treated with dignity and Christ-love, to have their immediate needs met within our means and to be shown the love and character of God in all that we do or say. On Jan. 22, 1973 the Supreme Court ruled 7 – 2 that a constitutional "right to privacy" exists which protects a woman's deci- sion to have an abortion. The court established a trimester system that defined parameters within which states could limit abortions. (Roe v. Wade) This is the reason we celebrate Sanctity of Human Life Sunday in January on the Sunday that is the closest to the 22nd. Many of the churches in Tehama and Shasta counties set aside some time on that Sunday to bring this issue to their congregation and to let them know of the different ways they can help. Our community is filled with many organizations that work with those in need, and CareNet networks with many of them so that we can be a resource for each other. Our ministry is particularly on the frontline regarding the issue of abortion and we cannot operate without your prayers and support. Having been here in the Redding area for 25 years speaks superlatively of your generosity and of your heart for the Sanctity of Human Life. There is much to look forward to in 2010. At a time that many Pregnancy Centers in our country have had to close or consolidate, we have succeeded in keep- ing our doors open to those in need of preg- nancy testing, those wanting to take part in our "Earn While You Learn" program, and those seeking testing and treatments of STDs. I am firmly convinced that this New Year will be financially brighter, allowing us to extend our services even more. I believe this for all of the North State. So in the words of the young Tiny Tim, whom we all loved in Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, I say: "God bless us everyone." Dianne Brown is the training directress for Carenet Pregnancy Centers of the Tri Counties, with offices or facilities in Red Bluff, Redding and Weaverville. She shares the good news of what God is doing in seemingly impossible crisis pregnancies on this anniversary weekend of Roe V. Wade. Dianne Brown GodTalk Three-day Celebration of Faith starts Friday Prayer is the focus and "Partnering with God and Living Our Prayers" the theme of the annual Celebration of Faith sponsored by the United Methodist churches in Tehama County and the Federated Church in Orland. The celebration will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, at El Camino United Methodist; Saturday, Jan. 30, at Orland Federated; and Sunday, Jan. 31, at Cone Community United Methodist. The three-evening event is modeled in the spirit of the Methodist Camp Meetings of old, where people gathered for several days of breaking bread together, singing, praying, preaching and witnessing. Each evening there will be a worship celebration featuring special music and congregational hymn singing, a speaker on prayer and a time for prayer. On Saturday and Sun, in addition to the worship celebration, there will be a workshop on prayer, and a meal. The public is invited; there is no charge. The schedule each evening is as follows: Jan., 29, the worship celebration begins at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Janna Adamson, pastor of Willows United Methodist, preaching. The event will be held at El Camino United Methodist Church, 8345 Hwy 99W, three miles south of Proberta. Jan. 30, the workshop, Healing Prayer, led by Joe Riker of Orland Federated begins at 4:30 p.m., to be followed by a meal at 5:30. The worship celebration is at 6:30 p.m. and fea- tures speaker the Rev. David Vallelunga, pastor of Trinity United Methodist in Chico. This event will be at Orland Federated Church, 709 First St. and Hwy 32 in Orland. Jan. 31, the workshop, Intercessor Prayer, led by Ray Watkins of Los Molinos Communi- ty United Methodist, will be at 4:30 p.m. fol- lowed by the meal at 5:30 p.m. and the worship celebration at 6:30 p.m. with speaker the Rev. Kate O'Leary, pastor of First United Methodist in Red Bluff. The location of this final evening is Cone Community United Methodist, 11220 Hwy 99E, one mile south of Dairyville. For further information contact Ray Watkins, 384-1860, or Kathleen Smith, 529- 5446. Fifth Sunday event The First Southern Baptist Church will host its Janu- ary Fifth Sunday Sing at 6 p.m. Jan. 31, featuring The Friend in Faith, Polly Neal, Ron Lord and others. The church is at 585 Kimball Road. Finger food will be served following the concert, and singers are asked to call David Pace at 528-0671. Antelope Home Fellowship special Sunday scheduled Pastor John Bohrer of Antelope Home Fellowship announces a special Sunday service for Jan. 31.
