Justin Sports Medicine Team In 1980, Dr. J Pat Evans and Don Andrews devel- oped the concept of a mobile sports medicine system that would provide medical support services to pro- fessional rodeo athletes at arenas where they com- peted across the country. This innovative new sports medicine system linked a network of selected emer- gency physicians, orthopedists, trauma specialists, athletic trainers, physical therapists and massage therapists, as well as hospitals and clinics around the nation to provide comprehensive medical coverage to the professional rodeo contestant. Recognizing the value of such a program and wanting to return the support of the cowboys who wore Justin products, in 1981 the Justin Boot Com- pany became the only sponsor the program has known in its years of service. From its modest beginnings at some 10 Profes- sional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) sanc- tioned rodeos and just 775 contestants treated that first year, the Justin Sportsmedicine Team provides service to over 125 PRCA rodeos annually while treating some 6,000 cases. Services are provided at a permanent facility in Mesquite, Texas, out of stocked medical kits for indoor arenas, as well as from three fully-equipped mobile centers which service outdoor events. The team also provides medical services at some ten PRCA Xtreme Bulls events annually. Upon the retirement of the program's founders in 2010, the team came under the leadership of new Executive Director Mike Rich and Medical Director Dr. Tandy Freeman. Among the most recent addi- tions to the program include three brand new mobile medicine centers, four laptop computers, and injury- tracking computer software to better service the needs of the traveling rodeo competitor. Rick Foster, MS, ATC will be heading up the team at this years Red Bluff Round Up. Having covered more rodeos for the team than Tough enough to wear pink? Since 2006, everything from pink chaps and a pink inlaid saddle to a custom pink engraved shotgun have enticed bidders to raise almost $145,000 to support breast cancer awareness for the community. "We are dedicated to giving back to our community through this pro- gram," said Round-Up director In a sea of pink, the Sunday per- formance of the Red Bluff Round Up will once again be auctioning a one of a kind item to raise funds to donate locally to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital's Imaging Center. Jolene Kemen. Tough Enough to Wear Pink was created by entrepreneur and breast cancer survivor Terry Wheatley to bring the sport of professional rodeo and the western community together to rally against breast can- cer. Since 2004, it has empowered rodeos to focus attention on the need for a cure. To date the campaign has raised $5 million for breast cancer chari- ties. All the funds raised at the Round-Up have been kept locally for the community's fight against cancer. The Imaging Center has been able to purchase needed equipment and provide excellent care to the community through local donations. This year a pink Yamaha RZR will be auctioned during the per- formance starting at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Fashions and Tehama Oaks Vine- yard of Red Bluff will be donating a portion of their sales to this worth- while cause. Tickets are available by calling 527-1000 or visit www.red- bluffroundup.com.
