TheAssociatedPress SAN FRANCISCO A storm that brought two feet of snow to parts of the northern Sierra Nevada and sparked a tornado moved Friday to Southern California, where it was expected to bring high winds. The storm system dumped more than 20 inches of snow on parts the northern Sierra between Thursday and Friday morning, according to the Na- tional Weather Service. The snow- fall created whiteout conditions that briefly closed a major route to Lake Tahoe, but was a boon to skiers at Tahoe resorts, which have been getting steady snowfall for the past week or so. "It's a day and night difference from a year ago," said Kevin Coo- per, spokesman for the Kirkwood and Heavenly resorts. "I cannot remember a Christmas Day like I just had this morning." The precipitation was also a boon for the state's reservoirs. Fol- som Lake added nearly 18 billion gallons on Tuesday and Wednes- day, the Sacramento Bee reported, citing state figures. The sharp in- crease would likely mean cities could draw drinking water from the lake without difficulty, the newspaper said. Elsewhere in Northern Califor- nia, the storm sparked a tornado that damaged the roofs of numer- ous homes and at least one busi- ness and downed trees, National CALIFORNIA WEATHER Stormdumps about 2 feet of snow in Sierras By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF A trial date has been set for March 2, 2016 in the case against the three suspects charged with murder stemming from a 2014 shooting of a Red Bluff man. A Red Bluff Police officer made a traffic stop on the 100 block of Sale Lane around 1 a.m. Friday and recognized the passenger as 43-year-old Ruby Epperson, of Bella Vista, who has several war- rants out for her arrest, accord- ing a press release issued Friday morning by Red Bluff Police De- partment. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver, Justin Tucker, 39, of Bella Vista, sped away, the release said. The officer pursued the vehicle east on Antelope Bou- levard and 99E at speeds above 100 mph. Other officers and deputies from the Tehama County Sher- iff's Department joined the pur- suit, which ended when Tucker failed to negotiate a sharp turn in Tehama, coming to rest in a field. Both Tucker and Epperson fled on foot but were detained by dep- uties before getting far, the re- lease said. It was learned Tucker was on Post Release Community Super- vision in Shasta County and had cut off his ankle monitor, the re- lease said. He was booked into Te- hama County Jail on a charge of felony evading. Epperson had four felony and two misdemeanor warrants with a total bail of $455,000.
