Red Bluff Police Sgt. Kevin Busekist, a 23-year law enforce- ment veteran in Tehama County, has been with the department since 1997. He was a Tehama County Sheriff's Deputy 1992 to 1997. "Any of these guys would have been a ticket any other time of the year," Buskeist said. "Instead I gave them a warning with a Christmas card. In today's day and age with all the negativity surrounding law enforcement of- ficers I just wanted to show them I'm a regular guy that loves this CHRISTMAS RedBluff po li ce s er ge an t helps spread Christmas cheer Staff Report @redbluffnews on Twitter RED BLUFF An attempted traffic stop just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on northbound Interstate 5 ended in a vehicle crashing into an over- pass near Hooker Creek Road, ac- cording to Tehama County Sher- iff's logs. Both visits were the magic of Tehama County resident Terry Owen, President of the Lassen Riders motorcycle group, who has been playing Santa for several years all around the North State. Owen, whose wife Debbie of- ten plays Mrs. Claus when she's off work, is so dedicated to the job of bringing Christmas cheer that he put off his fourth heart surgery. Doctors asked about schedul- ing Owen for Dec. 7 for open heart surgery in San Francisco, but he convinced them to change it to Jan. 12 so he could fulfill his du- ties as Santa, Owen said. "I refused," Owen said. "I just had too many jobs as Santa." JULIE ZEEB — DAILY NEWS By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter RED BLUFF The Facilities Maintenance Department at the Tehama County Superior Courthouse continued a tradi- tion started some 55 years ago by Collis Henderson in putting up the annual Christmas dis- play in the lobby. "The Facilities Mainte- nance Department started it and we continue it," Director Russ Skelton said. "We try and change it up every year. This year we changed our minds again after looking at the stuff in our Christmas shed," The display contains a North Pole Post Office with Santa as the postmaster. The Post Office is probably about 30 years old, said Main- tenance Worker Bill Roude- bush, who assisted in the dis- play. Others who worked on the display with Skelton and Roudebush were Tom Mackey, Drew Cheney, Matt Simonsen and Mike Eighmy. The display is done on the employees' own time, including breaks, lunch time and week- ends, and is paid for out of their pockets, Skelton said. Some fel- low county employees take up a collection and donate toward the display, which the group ap- preciates. Typically the group tries to get it up at least two weeks be- fore Christmas and leave it up a few days after. The 2015 dis- play will be up until at least Wednesday. This year's dis- play took about four hours to put together, while the most elaborate one they have created took about six hours, Roude- bush said. "We'll start talking about next year's about the first of the year," Skelton said. "People look forward to it and every year we keep it a secret." The group also decorates the annex, which has a Christmas tree and puts up lights around the courthouse. Then the new courthouse is completed on Walnut Street west of downtown, the display will still be in the same loca- tion, Skelton said. The existing courthouse is county owned and the employees work for a county department, while the new building is a state owned facility. Tehama County Clerk and Recorder Jennifer Vise, whose office is right next to the dis- play, said her group enjoys waiting to see what the employ- ees will come up with. "We really do appreciate all the hard work they do every year to surprise us with a new Christmas display," Vise said. "They always do it over the weekend so it's a nice surprise to come to Monday morning."
