ThePanthersdidn'tmiss many shots and kept the game at a pace the Spar- tans couldn't match, going up 18-0 three minutes into the game. Red Bluff's first points would come when Pritchard was fouled while shooting and made one of two shots from the paint. A turnover and fast break got Pritchard another score right away, but the Panthers answered with a quick three-pointer and continued to pile on and build a 28-5 lead at the end of the first period. The rest of the game was more of the same in a tough night for the Spar- tans, who were down 43- 16 at half after Pritchard hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. The Spartans' rebound- ing improved in the sec- ond half, but that hardly slowed the Panthers and after three it was 63-23 South Medford. Pritchard led the scoring for the Spartans with 20, followed by Bryce Sinclair with 4, Eric Spencer with 3 and Joey Knight with 1. The Spartans head into winter break at 3-7 and prepare to host the Shasta Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Tues- day, Jan. 5. On the air By Josh Dubow The Associated Press ALAMEDA Charles Wood- son's return to Oakland be- gan with hundreds of fans gathering at the team's fa- cility urging him to come back. The second stint will come to an end following an emotional farewell at the Oakland Coliseum. Woodson announced Monday he will retire fol- lowing his 18th NFL sea- son, ending a career that included a Heisman Tro- phy, a Super Bowl title and numerous other honors. Woodson said he real- ized late last month that he couldn't play another season and wanted to an- nounce his decision be- fore playing his final home game Thursday night against San Diego. "I felt it was only right that Raiders fans, my fans, fans that have watched me play for a long time, I'd let them all know that this Thursday night would be the last time in the Coli- seum I would be able to run out there in front of our fans at home," Wood- son said at a news confer- ence. Woodson is one of the most accomplished defen- sive backs to play the game, ranking fifth all-time with 65 interceptions and tied for first with Rod Woodson and Darren Sharper with 13 defensive touchdowns. He won the AP Defen- sive Rookie of the Year award in 1998, AP Defen- sive Player of the Year in 2009 and is a three-time, first-team All Pro selection. "Charles Woodson is one of those players that comes along and reminds you why you love the game," general manager Reggie McKenzie said.
