By Julie Zeeb jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Zeeb on Twitter TEHAMA The California High- way Patrol is seeking an un- known suspect following a short pursuit just before 7 p.m. Thurs- day in Tehama. An officer attempted to make a traffic stop for a speed viola- tion in the area of Fifth Street about 6:45 p.m., however, the driver failed to stop and instead made a right turn onto G Street. A short pursuit ensued during which the driver drove through several yards on the way toward the Sacramento River, a CHP spokesman said. At some point, the officer lost sight of the pickup truck. It was spotted a few minutes later with the front end of it in the river. The driver fled on foot, leav- ing the pickup behind. The sus- pect had been able to get out on the passenger side. The suspect vehicle is a White Ford F-150 that had been stolen about 45 minutes prior to the pursuit, the spokesman said. The Tehama County Sheriff's Department was called to assist and deputies checked the east side of the river for wet people. The CHP helicopter was called out to do an area check, but the driver was not located. Anyone with information about the incident or the sus- pect is asked to call the Red Bluff CHP office at (530) 527- 2034.
