ALUMNAE NEWS Betty Confer Watson '36 is 97 years old and lives in Vallejo, Calif. Betsey Andker Young '38 was recently honored as a founder at the 60th annual celebration of the Lafayette Junior Women's Club in the Lafayette Junior Garden. The brass plaque in her name reads, "Lafayette Junior Garden, Dedicated on April 29, 2013, to Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of our Founding by Betsey Young." E-mail: kzgaylord@gmail.com. Joyce Howell Wells '48 sold her house and lives in a duplex. She still enjoys swimming laps, playing duplicate bridge and Mahjong, and gardening. Joyce attended her grandson's graduation from West Point last May and his brother's from high school in June. She says, "I try to travel east twice a year to see the family. Life is still good." Joan Oakholt Blacher '49 was recently featured in an article in the May edition the American Associtation for Career Education. She is an award winning author, having just published her third mystery novel, Death on the Run, in November 2013, and is now working on her fourth novel. Joan is a licensed psychotherapist and has been practicing for 23 years. She and her husband, Norman, live in Somis, California, and have three children. She is also the publicist for the chorale. She writes, "After one year of receiving lovely, poetic letters, I retired, moved to Virginia, and we got married!" Melody now helps sell and distribute his grass- fed finished beef and works on rant activities promoting health and exercise. The couples granddaughters visit every summer.
