MU NEWS Χ Ω Mu Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of California-Berkeley Fall 2015 Chi Omega Remains on Top Mu Chapter Focuses on Academics, Sisterhood, and Staying Involved M u chapter has kept busy this fall participating in sisterhood, social, and philanthropy activities, all while maintaining a high chapter GPA. The women of Mu chapter have truly struck a balance between academics, campus activities, and, of course, chapter activities. ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS Mu chapter earned a 3.428 GPA last semester, which is higher than the all-sorority, the all- Greek, the all-women, and the all-undergraduate GPAs. "Our chapter currently ranks second out of 13 Panhellenic chapters here at Cal and consistently ranks in the top three," said Vice President and Scholarship Chairman Emma Fisher '13. We thank Emma for facilitating our academic mentorship program, quiet study hours, and our bi-annual scholarship dinner, which took place October 12 and brought together faculty members and sisters of all disciplines. PHILANTHROPIC PURSUITS The Make-A-Wish Foundation is near and dear to all of us at Mu chapter. Philanthropy Chairman Jill Friess '13 led our chapter in hosting Wings for Wishes, a barbecue and wing eating contest, which welcomed the entire Cal community. In combination with selling football game day parking, Jill has helped our chapter raise several thousand dollars this semester, and we look forward to granting more wishes in the near future. WELCOMING NEW SISTERS Recruitment Chairman Stacy Kellner '14 led the chapter in recruiting 38 wonderful new members. Clara Murphy '14 hosted a written in the stars-themed Bid Day on September 2 at the Lucky Strike Bowling Alley in San Francisco. Thanks to Clara, her assistants, and the sisterhood support team, the new member class is well on its way to completing their new member program. STAYING SOCIAL On September 10, Director of Socials Isabel Alvarez '14 hosted a successful invitational at Sinbads, an evening of dancing overlooking the San Francisco Bay. On October 24-25, Mu Chapter hosted its first overnight sisterhood retreat in Santa Cruz. The retreat involved fun beach activities, pizza, s'mores, a viewing of Love Actually, and a sleepover. We owe special thanks to Sisterhood Chairman Hanna Darroll '14 for organizing and to Nicole LaPorte '14 and her family for welcoming us into their home. ALUMNAE AND FAMILY SUPPORT We hosted an alumnae tailgate on September 19 along with a Cal football watch party. It was an opportunity to celebrate the new deck, which you can read more about on page 3, catch up with sisters, and watch Cal beat Texas in the final minutes of the game. Additionally, we owe thanks to our parents, siblings, grandparents, and other loved ones for their attendance at our new member presentation on October 4. The day included brunch, house tours, and a special presentation ceremony. We thank all family members— whether they were able or unable to attend—for their continued support of Mu chapter. The women of Mu have continued to earn top grades and maintain meaningful involvement in their extracurricular activities, both within and beyond Chi Omega. Mu has emphasized sisterhood bonding this semester, and will continue to do so. Looking ahead, we are excited for our annual holiday dinner on December 3. We will continue enjoying our new deck, and we invite all alumnae to enjoy it with us. We thank our Mu alumnae for their unwavering support.
