ByMichaelMarot The Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS The Golden State Warriors followed the script perfectly for three quarters Tuesday night. Then things got a bit more inter- esting. The defending NBA champions improved to 23-0, with Klay Thomp- son scoring a season-high 39 points and Stephen Curry adding 29 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists in a 131- 123 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Thompson scored 29 points in the first half, during which the Warriors went on a 22-0 run. Golden State led by 28 in the fourth quarter before the Pacers closed within six in the final 25 seconds. The Warriors have won 27 straight dating to last season, tying the 2012- 13 Heat for the second-longest streak in NBA history. The 1971-72 Lakers hold the record with 33 wins in a row. Golden State also has won 13 straight road games this season, breaking a tie with the 1969-70 Knicks for the league's best road start. The Warriors next play on Fri- day night in Boston. Indiana was led by Paul George with 33 points and C.J. Miles with 24. Golden State broke away in the first quarter with its big burst, extended the lead to 50-28 early in the second quarter and led by as much as 32 late in the third quarter. But Indiana came back in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 129-123 with 24.8 seconds to go when George made a free throw after Draymond Green was called for a technical foul. That was as close as the Pacers could get. Indiana tied a dubious franchise record in its NBA era by allowing 44 first-quarter points and barely avoided another record-breaking de- fensive low when it trailed 79-60 at the half. The Pacers gave up 44 points in the opening quarter at Chicago in De- cember 1990 and a franchise-worst 80 points in the first half at the Lak- ers in November 1978. In another dramatic move to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, the Arizona Diamondbacks reached an agreement Tuesday to acquire All-Star right-hander Shelby Miller from the Atlanta Braves for overall No. 1 draft pick Dansby Swanson, and two other prospects. Arizona, which finalized a $206.5 million, six-year contract with major league ERA leader Zack Greinke earlier in the day, also would send outfielder Ender Inciarte and pitching prospect Aaron Blair to the Braves, a per- son familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The Dia- mondbacks would acquire minor league left-hander Gabe Speier as part of the trade. The person spoke on condition of anonym- ity because the trade was pend- ing approval of medical records. Also Tuesday, San Francisco (4- 8) re-signed linebacker Shayne Skov to a two-year contract just three days after waiving him to clear roster room for center Dan- iel Kilgore's return to the 53-man roster. NFL 49ers' Celek has season cut short on IR By Michael Wagaman The Associated Press ALAMEDA Derek Carr's three interceptions in the fourth quar- ter of Sunday's loss to Kansas City were a stark reminder that the Oakland Raiders' young quarterback still has plenty of room to grow. Carr's touchdown to wide re- ceiver Michael Crabtree earlier in the game — when he split tight coverage and managed to somehow slip the ball in be- tween a pair of Chiefs defenders — was also a reminder of Carr's immense talent. Finding a happy balance be- tween the two is the next step in Carr's development — a chal- lenge that takes on greater sig- nificance with the Raiders on the brink of elimination in the AFC playoff race. Oakland coach Jack Del Rio remains steadfast in his support of Carr, but he also challenged the second-year pro to learn from what went wrong Sunday. "I think the sting of having that experience will stay with you," Del Rio said. "Some of the adulation, some of the high of how good it went like he's done a couple of times, that stays with you. You learn from the good and bad experiences. "The guy is super talented. He's taken all the responsibility that he needs to. I completely be- lieve in the young man and I'm confident that he'll learn from that experience and be stronger going forward." With the Raiders nursing a six-point lead with 12 minutes to play, Carr admitted he tried to do too much when his intended flip to a wide receiver ended up in the hands of Chiefs linebacker Josh Mauga. Carr threw another intercep- tion on Oakland's next drive when Crabtree got tripped up on a crossing pattern. His third pick came on a poorly thrown pass intended for Amari Cooper. "We turned the ball over. Can't do that, especially against a good team," Carr said. "That's my fault and we'll get it fixed." With 26 touchdown passes and nine interceptions, Carr hasn't made many mistakes this season. The few he has made, though, have been critical. Seven of his nine intercep- tions this season have come in the fourth quarter. Two have come in the end zone when the Raiders were poised to score, while a third was returned 74 yards for a touchdown by Den- ver's Chris Harris in a Week 5 game that Oakland lost 16-10. Carr's 101.5 passer rating heading into last week was sixth-best in the NFL. But those numbers have dipped to 60.5 in the fourth quarter. At the same time, Del Rio praised Carr for his sparkling 25-yard touchdown throw to Crabtree in heavy coverage in the first half against Kansas City. Carr split two defenders with the pass and Crabtree was drilled as he fell into the end zone but held onto the ball. "That was a great throw but that could be considered a dan- ger throw," Del Rio said. "When you're able to gun a few of those in, it might give you confidence to do other things.
