"Records we have found in- dicate more than 500 people have served as guides here since about 1968-1969," Board Secretary Christine Wyman said. "The house was sold to the association in 1966 for $22,000, but it took some time to repair it. The original group was looking for an old house to preserve and turn into a non- profit, educational venue and someone suggested this place." The mortgage was fully paid offin1976andthemuseumwas thriving thanks to the Ameri- can Association of University Women, who kicked things off with a $377 donation. The group is the beginning of a list of items mentioned in the history of the museum with one of the first mentions being in May of 1965 when the group held a historic homes tour. All proceeds above money raised for scholarships went to the museum to start the Kelly- Griggs House Museum Asso- ciation. Much of the fact that the mortgage was paid off in just 10 years was the efforts of the guides who held teas, bridge events, the ice cream social and Christmas events as well as donations from the tours.
