The college received numerous awards and special recognition that the entire campus and community should be proud of. Although we had a fabulous year in 2009, we look forward to accomplishing more in 2010. Curriculum Awards and Recognition In the Nuclear Medicine Technology program, there has been 100% student pass rate on licensing exams since 2004. The Associate Nursing Program ranked 11th out of 67 community colleges in North Carolina, 106th out of 990 two year colleges in the United States, and 167th out of 1653 — which includes all of the nursing programs in the United States — on the NCLEX pass rates. The Huskins Nursing Program received a 100% student pass rate on written NACES Exam. The Cosmetology Department and Basic Law Enforcement Technology Program received a 100% student pass rate and Surgical Technology ranked in the top 20 national designation from Accreditation Review Council on Education. The Early Childhood Education Center received a supe- rior sanitation rating. Campus Awards and Recognition Our Culinary Students received first place & people's choice awards for the Dickens Holiday Classic Gingerbread Competition and the Fayetteville Observer recog- nized Chef Richard Kugelmann for his work at the Christmas Fruitcake Competition. Kudos goes out to the grounds crew for their achievement in the Fayetteville Observer Reader's Choice award for Best Landscaping. Faculty/Staff Awards and Recognition Dr. Dina Adams, Pharmacy Technology Department Chair, was chosen along with 14 others nationwide as an item writer for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Susan Ellis, Dental Hygiene Department Chair, was awarded a four year ap- pointment to the National Dental Hygiene Review Committee. Sean McDaniel, Fine Arts Department Chair, was selected as President of the Visual Art Alliance of Fayetteville. Georgia Betcher and Tom Strommer were recognized for their work as Vice President of Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters and Carnegie Mellon CC-OLI Statistics Initiative, respectively. Community Service FTCC encourages its faculty, staff and students to participate in community service. Here is just a highlight of what was accomplished. The dental students pro- vided free dental screenings and cleanings for more than 300 middle school children in Cumberland County. FTCC practical nursing students performed 900 vision screenings and more than 350 sports physicals for Cumberland County Schools. The architectural students designed three homes to be built by Kingdom Development Corporation and conducted the Youth REAL Entrepreneurship Summer Camp for 19 middle school students. Partnership Activities In 2009, FTCC radiography students assisted local radiographers with mam- mography seminars within Cumberland County and the Emergency Medical Science Department participated in Consortium for Advancement of Research in EMS. FTCC partnered with the community on programs such as STEM, Carnegie Mellon University, College Connections Academy and Pipeline Launched by BRAC. FTCC campus hosted the first North Carolina Community College System Global Learners' Consortium, the 19th Annual National Paramedic Competition and the 10th Annual Future Seekers. Fayetteville Technical Community College was established in 1961 and serves over 34,000 students annually by providing 150 affordable vocation- al, technical, general education, college transfer, and continuing education programs to meet stu- dents' needs and desires as well as the community.
