WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM 10 UCW DEC. 30, 2009 - JAN. 5, 2010 Chairman The n speaks speaks Happy New Year! I hope that it is a very good year for you, your business and your family. We are blessed with a stable economy, a great com- munity and a lot of people that are willing to make it better. As the volunteer chairman at the Chamber, I feel that I should address the recent negative articles concerning our fi nancial position. It is a concern to all of us. Many are members because you care and wish to im- prove your business and the economy of Fayetteville and Cumberland County. I believe that we all have similar goals. I assure you that Doug Peters and his staff will achieve a balanced budget very soon. I don't want to delve into detailed accounting here, but it is important that we understand that the Strike Force expenditures were designed to promote and help new business ventures. Most of the expenditures were not an expense by any rules of accounting. The bulk of last year's funds were loans that are scheduled to start paying back this fi scal year. With a very professional "lean" staff and a new location and rent factor, our monthly expenses will be greatly reduced. We are all here to serve this great community. We want to assist our existing businesses while recruiting new businesses and industries. While we must have a balanced budget, our organization is here to serve. Unlike your business, net profi t is not our objective. So, have a great year and come visit us soon at our new location at the top of Hay street. The view and the parking are great.
