During the tim e he was gon e, he occasionally made contact through hurtful letters. My husband's sister made contact with him and now my husband wants to re- establish a relationship with him. I don't trust him — he goes by many names, won't give any in- formation about himself and looks down at those who have "sold out." We suspect he has de- cided to resurface because there may be some in- heritance soon. I have no problem with that — my beef is that I don't want him in my home. My husband keeps inviting him to our home but he never shows up. I have not shared my thoughts with my hus- band. When he suggests getting together with his brother, I will keep my concerns to myself. But his brother is so creepy. Anything you can suggest to help? —ConcernedWife DEAR CONCERNED » If you are sincere about not wanting your brother-in- law in your home, why are you keeping quiet? If you have a strong objection you should talk about it. I sense that you are keeping quiet because you don't want to stand between your husband and his brother — which is a wise choice. People tend to maintain the patterns they have established throughout life, and if your brother-in-law is a unreliable and toxic per- son, then he will probably burn his siblings at some point. You should not say, "I tol d you s o," but you should offer support. DEAR AMY » I have a fam- ily member who I suspect may be anorexic. She told me when she looks in the mirror she sees a fat per- son. She says the thought of food makes her sick. When she does eat, it is only a few bites. She says she just has to lose some more weight. She has lost 30 pounds in nine months; she is experienc- ing a lot of stress right now, but I'm worried. How common is it for a woman over 50 yea rs of age to develop anorexia? — Worried DEAR WORRIED » Diag- nosed serious eating disorders are actually relatively rare, though they affect younger women at an in creasi ng rate, according to statis- tics cited by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders (anad.org). However, overall "dis- ordered eating" is alarm- ingly common. One study said that an estimated 70 percent of women over the age of 50 are trying to lose weight. Nearly half of people diagnosed with eating dis- orders are believed to also suffer from depression. You should express your concern in a sup- portive and nonjudgmen- tal way, and which leaves room for a sensitive conversation. Urge her to get a medical checkup and give her open-ended opportunities to talk. NEACrossword Sagittarius(Nov.23-Dec. 21) — Keep your thoughts to yourself and your private mat- ters secret. Interference from others will be what stands between you and success. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) — Your desire for change may concern the people who love you. Follow your heart. If your actions are less transparent, you will avoid interference. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Someone you love will de- mand extra attention. Don't give in too readily if you have made a prior commitment. Pisces (Feb. 20-March 20) — Take care of pressing health problems. Make an appointment with your doctor or get some needed rest. Don't let anyone upset you or cause stress. Aries (March 21-April 19) — Speak up and clear the air if you feel it will help a conflict you have with someone. Anger is a waste of time, and ignoring the situation will result in emotional stress. Taurus (April 20-May 20) — Look at the big picture and find a way to reach your destination. A monetary gain is apparent if you put in the time and effort to finish what you start. Gemini (May 21-June 20) — Engage in some serious self- reflection in order to discover a way to address any problem you are experiencing. Downtime will give you the opportunity to think and make a decision. Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Avoid joint money ventures. An older or younger person in your life will compete for your attention. A compassionate and mindful approach will clear up a misunderstanding. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) — The more you pursue the things you want, the better you will do and the more you will gain. Keep in mind that a penny saved is a penny earned. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22) — Expect someone to make poor assumptions. Ignore what's being said and paint a clear picture that reveals the facts in order to bypass trouble and accomplish great things. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 23) — Empty promises will be a result of you not wanting to make up your mind or make a move. Assess the situation and take action — only then will you reap full advantage. Scorpio (Oct. 24-Nov. 22) — You'll accomplish the most if you stay out of the spotlight. Secretly making changes to your routine or a plan will help you avoid interference.
