Art walk to be open through holidays downtown Fine Arts artist Connie Maxey will welcome the public to her home studio during the three-day self- guided Open Studio Te- hama County artist tour Dec. 4-6. Connie has always been near to pencils and paint. Her father, Raymond Ab- shier, had a talent for the arts but at age 21 was killed in an accident. He left be- hind many drawings that her mother, Lottie Lee, reg- ularly shared with their daughter. "I desired to connect with my father, dream his dreams, think his thoughts and I found that in his art- work," said Connie. A few years ago Connie's husband Alan made sure she had a working studio. Her books and special ar- eas within the studio reflect her many interests, which include working with inks, silk painting, pastels, pen and ink, Zentangle draw- ing, acrylics, watercolor and pencils. Then there is writing, gardening, cook- ing,sewing,herChristianli- brary and family genealogy. Throughout Connie's life she has explored different art media but admits that watercolor painting and pencil-line drawing gives her the most satisfaction. "It's the movement, the union of water and paint that's so creative and excit- ing," Connie says, "and the anticipation just makes me feel so alive." According to Connie, she uses her drawing skills to work out future paintings, to quickly capture a mo- ment, attempts to draw ev- ery day and draws to just simply relax. "I can easily get lost for hours with no thought of time when I'm drawing," Connie said. "Art, to create art, has always been a part of my life, a passion. To use the gifts that God has given me in a way that ex- presses dreams, thoughts, the world around me, is pure joy and is amplified when my work brings joy to another." Open Studio is spon- sored by the Tehama County Arts Council and the California Arts Council Arts Plate Program. More information can be found on Facebook and at Open Studio Tehama County. Studio location maps are at Enjoy The Store, Dales Carpet & Design and the Tehama Country Visitor Center.
