"I think it's hard to separate who I am today from my experiences at Gamma Theta." Since graduating, Bryan has pursued careers in law; government, serving in the Reagan administration; public accounting; higher education; and even ran for governor of Nebraska. When the University of Nebraska- Lincoln reached out one year ago, Bryan couldn't help but accept a position teaching in the school of accountancy as their first executive in residence. Long before the launch of the Building on a Tradition of Excellence campaign was announced, Bryan recognized the need for a new Gamma Theta chapter house to be built. "Times have changed and the building needs to adapt to students' needs to be competitive on campus," Bryan said. The campaign gave Bryan the perfect opportunity to give back to his beloved Gamma Theta and make a difference for future generations of brothers. "All of us who were here in the '70s and '80s understand how exceptional the chapter is and its impact on so many brothers," Bryan said. "It's important to give back and we need to continue to make donations of our time and money to repay a debt we all owe. I have a lot of admiration for the hard work of the leaders of this current campaign, because this is so important for the next generations of ATWs." Bryan has stayed close to the friends he made in Alpha Tau Omega as an undergraduate, and enjoys watching them continue to be men focused on contributing to their communities, companies, and families. "I am still close to lots of brothers and many of us often play golf and socialize together," Bryan said. With the current campaign, Bryan hopes to inspire the men of his class to make an impact as alumni. "As undergraduates, we all knew there were important alumni contributing time and money to the chapter, always working to make the chapter better. I think we took their contributions for granted at times, but for the ATWs of my era, it's our chance to return that favor," Bryan said. Bryan and his wife, Leslie, have two children: Steve, who is in the Navy, and Lauryn, who works as a CPA in Atlanta, Georgia. In his free time, Bryan enjoys golfing and motorcycles. He reflects fondly on his years in Gamma Theta, remembering moments such as intramural championships and the pledges singing to Brad Tolstedt '77 with a unique pledge sneak song in his honor. "The chapter is always going to be an important part of my life," Bryan said. You can contact Bryan at bryan.slone@koleyjessen.com. Choosing to Make a Difference What's Your Class Participation? The chapter has been working very hard to make sure that we return strong next year and are recognized as one of the top chapters on campus. Keeping Our Bond Strong Since we have decided to close the house this year for renovation, all of our members are spread out and living at different locations around campus. Fortunately, there are two main apartment complexes where a majority of our members are living and where we can still get together and see each other on a daily basis. This has been one of our main goals for this year: keeping the bond of brotherhood strong among our brothers and hosting weekly brotherhood activities. These activities have consisted of Sunday night dinners, gathering to watch football, and working with the alumni board to help clean out the chapter house. Though the house is closed for renovations, we have scheduled chapter meetings every Monday to provide our members with another opportunity to spend time with one another and to stay on track.
