CUMBERLAND Agriculture Hall of Fame Seeks Nominations by June 1 Trail Signs Replaced Nominations are now being accepted for inductees into the Cumberland County Agriculture Hall of Fame, which honors persons who have contributed outstanding service to agriculture, home economics, youth development or rural communities. The Hall of Fame is located in the auditorium of the Cumberland County Extension Center. Since 1989 membership has been awarded to one or more persons annually. The nominating committee will review all nominations and select a nominee or nominees to be submitted to the Board of Commissioners for consideration and election into the Hall of Fame. The recipient(s) will be honored in November. Conservation District purchased signs identifying prominent plants and trees on the upland and wetland trails at Lake Rim Park. After six years, many of the signs' acrylic covers had been broken or scratched and some needed to be completely replaced either because of damage or to update their information. When Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors found out the signs needed to be repaired or replaced, they approved the purchase for 15 new signs. Park Ranger Amber Williams said some of the signs will be moved to new locations because found at those particular locations and some will be moved to help reduce the risk of vandalism. In 2006 Cumberland Soil and Water Workshop Focuses on Fair Housing Cumberland County Community Development and other partners are hosting a free workshop on fair housing rights for people with disabilities on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Department of Social Services, 1225 Ramsey St. Organizers invite the pubic, especially people with disabilities; individuals living with HIV/AIDS; disability rights advocates; providers of housing and related services for people with disabilities; and anyone who cares about equal access to decent, affordable housing. Jack Holtzman and Jeff Dillman of the Fair Housing Project of Legal Aid of North Carolina are the presenters. A representative from SocialServe.com, a housing locator service, will also speak.
