Lariat Bowl will once again be collecting toys for children of all ages in the community as part of the annual CHiPs For Kids Toy Drive. Each game of bowling Nov. 23-29 will be $4 per game with the business do- nating$1foreachpaidgame to the CHiPs For Kids cam- paign to purchase toys for needy children in Tehama County. "This is a great opportu- nity to get out and get some exercise, have fun and con- tribute to a very worthwhile cause right here in our own community," said Red Bluff CHP Commander Lt. Lou Aviles. "We are very happy that Lariat bowl has agreed to partner with us again this year." Lariat, 365 S. Main St., will be collecting toys through Dec. 13. For more information, call 527-2720. To donate toys or for questions, call the Red Bluff CHP office at 527-2034. DONATIONS C HP , bo wl a ll ey t ea m up for toy drive By Sally Ainsworth With the holidays upon us the library staff would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday sea- son. The little ones will have some time off from school so it's a great time to bring them to the li- brary. We would love to issue your children their first library cards. Come on in and find out what we have to offer for your family this month. We have story hours in our Red Bluff and Corn- ing branches and an in- teractive program called Imagination Train. The preschool story hour in Red Bluff is at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays and our Corning branch program is at 10 a.m. Mondays. The volunteers that put on the Imagination Train program are here to play at 4 p.m. Thursdays. Your little ones will hear sto- ries, they will do a craft and play games. The chil- dren love this program and we love to be able to offer it to you. If you want to bring ed- ucational materials home to have your own story time with your children, you need to check out our Story Hours Boxes. These themed boxes are available to check out and take home so you can play interactively with your little ones. The boxes have pup- pets, puzzles, games, craft ideas and many books. Some of the themes that are available are Fall, music, gardening and ballet. We have 40 different boxes available and more on the way. All you need is a library card and you can use this amazing re- source in your home. The library also has a great children's section; full of all the favorite sto- ries children love. Plan a family night at the li- brary and introduce them to the Tehama County Li- brary. The library is a valu- able resource for all ages and we are here to help you find what you are looking for. Come in and check out some holiday stories to read with your family and make the li- brary your new tradition in the upcoming year. The library staff is looking forward to be- ing grand marshals of the Christmas parade on at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 in downtown Red Bluff. Come see us on our float, and see if you can figure out what storybook characters we're dressed as. Have a" Storybook Christmas" this season, and from the library staff, happy holidays. RESOURCES Ve te ra ns s er vi ce s, a dv oc ac y gr ou ps The Tehama County Vet- erans Service Office is offer- ing VSO appointments at the Veterans Hall in Corn- ing to increase services to our Tehama County veter- ans. The next Corning VSO walk in appointments will be 9- 11 a.m. Dec. 3, 10 and 17. Your participation is en- couraged so we can con- tinue to serve all of our Vet- erans in Tehama County. Please note that due to demand, as staffing per- mits, we will issue Tehama County Veteran ID Cards and the Veteran on Cali- fornia Driver's Licenses in the Red Bluff office only 2-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and in the Corn- ing office during the VSO scheduled appointments. I appreciate your continued support and patience with Veteran Services. The Chico Vet Center, which specializes in com- bat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Military Sex- ual Assault, came to Corn- ing during the Nov. 19 VSO schedule — please contact the VSO if you are inter- ested in Chico Vet Center services coming to Corn- ing or Red Bluff. Beverly Holden is our part-time Veteran Service Representative and she is in training for her VSR ac- creditation. She is begin- ning her office training on VA claims. This training is very important and will lead to increased veteran outreach in our county — but understand that we will not be able to do non-emer- gency walk-ins at the Red Bluff office. Please be patient and call the VSO office for an appointment. When Bev- erly is accredited, we will have one full-time accred- ited VSO and one part- time accredited VSR. We also have a new VA Work Study, Brock Groom, as- sisting with administra- tion part-time around his college class schedule — so when the VSO is assisting a client with an appointment, we will not always be able to answer the door or tele- phone if Brock is not in the office. Many veterans wait two or three weeks for an ap- pointment with the VSO — so it's important for the VSO and VSR to give them the courtesy of undivided attention during their ap- pointment. Thank you again for your patience. On Nov. 12 the VSO of- fice began validating mili- tary service for honorably discharged Veterans who would like to have "Vet- eran" noted on their Cali- fornia Driver's License. As with Tehama County Vet- eran ID cards, please bring an original copy or certified copy of your DD-214 and if needed, we can order one for you. As staffing permits, we will issue the veteran pa- perwork for your California Driver's License in the Red Bluff office 2-4 p.m. Tues- days and Thursdays. Corn- ing appointments will be by walk in during regularly scheduled VSO visits. Once the driver's license form is completed and vali- dated/stamped by the VSO, the form is ready to be taken to the DMV. Driver's license validation will not be avail- able in the Red Bluff office during the Corning VSO appointment dates. As a reminder, assisting veter- ans and their families with claims is the highest prior- ity, as we have veterans with serious health and financial issues. The VSO will issue Te- hama County Veteran ID cards to honorably dis- charged veterans. Please bring an original copy or certified copy of your DD- 214 and if needed, we can order one for you. Business owners interested in par- ticipating in the Veteran ID card discount program, pleasecontacttheVSOoffice at 529-3664. Please come to the Red Bluff office 2-4 p.m. Tues- days and Thursdays to re- ceive a Veteran ID Card and Tehama County participat- ing business list. There are many state and federal benefits and pro- grams available to veter- ans and their dependents. To find out if you are eligi- ble for any of these benefits, call the Tehama County Vet- erans Service Office at 529- 3664.
