ByMarilynAdams Psalm46:1says,"Godis our refuge and strength, a very present help in trou- ble." I want to tell you how the Lord worked the after- noon of September 27 as my Very Present Help. There was a frantic pounding on my security door around 2:40. I raced to the door. There stood a stranger telling me, "There is a fire behind your house. Go tell your neighbors. My son and I are going to use your hoses and fight it." I could see the fire through my kitchen win- dow. It was so close. I raced through my mind what I should take. It was too much to think about, so I just texted six people to pray and then took off for my neighbors. I made it to four houses before the helicopter dropped off four firefighters who ran in all directions with their walkie talkies. Soon I could hear the fire trucks coming up our road. This is the miraculous part. I live in Red Bluff. This man and his son had gone to Chico to buy tires. Normally he would have worked but he took the day off. He lives on my street. He saw the spark of the fire from the free- way and called it in. By the time he got to my house, it was already into my back lot. They got it stopped just short of the huge oak and my barn. If it would have just been a passerby calling in the fire, it would have con- sumed a lot more. In the meantime my neighbor to the left had an oak near the back cor- ner of our properties go up in flames. He was hosing it down when a water truck got there. The fire contin- ued all along the freeway side, and a house burned to the ground south of me. The people only got out with their pick up and their dog. If she had not heard the scanner, they might not have made it out in time. We were told that some- one dragging a chain on the freeway sparked the fires. We all have deep acre plus lots. If my res- cuer hadn't seen the fire from the freeway and called it in, everything would have been really bad. The fire must have started right behind me because my lot was the only one of my immediate neighbors that burned as far up as it went. The oth- ers were farther away from structures. I had my east window shades down to block the sun. I would never have seen the smoke. My res- cuer lives on my street so he knew how to get through the construction detours. He stopped at my house because I was the only one who had a drive- way that went all the way through to the back. Psalm 107:8 says, "Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men." Thank you, James and Chris for being good neighbors. Thank you, fire- fighters for diligently bat- tling our fires. I am still rejoicing today in His Di- vine Protection through you all. MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1958. A debilitating accident in 1977 radically changed her life. Through that crucible of affliction, the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings. GOD TALK Miraculous intervention Seattle-based, award winning guitarist Josh Snodgrass and his wife, Sarah, will be leading an evening of worship and mu- sic at First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. The guitar and vocal duo brings a fresh acoustic approach to popular wor- ship songs. Josh toured for several years as a solo guitarist before his wife Sarah re- covered from a vocal cord injury and was able to re- turn to singing. Sarah has been described as an au- thentic and transparent worship leader. Josh will also perform several instrumental wor- ship songs playing the bass line, chords and mel- ody all at the same time on the guitar. He uses a wide range of techniques including playing the gui- tar like a hand drum. His energetic and beautiful ar- rangements demonstrate the vast possibilities of the acoustic guitar as an instrument. Josh and Sarah travel full-time and perform at more than 120 churches and events a year across the western United States. To listen to their music and to learn more about their ministry visit www. onehopeonetruth.org. First Baptist Church is at 501 Pine St. in Red Bluff. There is no admission fee and a free will offering will be taken. NEIGHBORHOOD FULL GOSPEL Duo to perform, preach at service CONTRIBUTEDPHOTO Josh and Sarah Snodgrass Acoustic duo to perform Sunday Abortion, marriage key issues for bishops BALTIMORE The U.S. Con- ference of Catholic Bish- ops is issuing an election- year guide stressing a moral imperative to eval- uate candidates according to their positions on mar- riage and abortion. The bishops overwhelm- ingly voted for the guide called "Faithful Citizen- ship" at their national as- sembly Tuesday in Balti- more. The guide addresses a broad range of issues, in- cluding protecting immi- grants and the environ- ment, fighting racism and poverty, and opposing the death penalty. However, the bishops said they con- sider opposition to gay marriage and abortion paramount in this pres- idential election season and beyond. Kasich calls for agency promoting Christian values WASHINGTON Republi- can presidential candidate John Kasich says he'd set up an agency with a "man- date" to promote what he calls "Judeo-Christian val- ues" overseas to counter Islamist propaganda. The Ohio governor says he would create the new agency to promote the val- ues of human rights, de- mocracy and the freedoms of speech, religion and as- sociation. Kasich says the information would be distributed in the Mid- dle East, China, Iran and Russia, to compete with the propaganda and mis- information purveyed by Islamic militants. He made the comments Tuesday at the National Press Club in Washing- ton, as part of a speech on national security. Kasich says the U.S. is "failing to advance our values in the battle of ideas" in the face of advances by the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. — The Associated Press Religion briefs Tehama County Church Directory RedBluff....
