COURT Dateset fortrialof accused teenkiller By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF Long time Red Bluff Police Lt. Dan Flowerdew will be retiring Dec. 21 after nearly 27 years due to injuries sustained on the job. "It's with a bit of a heavy heart that I bring this one to us because it involves the retirement of Lt. Dan Flowerdew," said City Manager Rich- ard Crabtree at Tuesday's City Council meeting. Flowerdew has been an important part of the police department and the police department's management team, Crabtree said. Flowerdew's early retirement stems from mul- tiple injuries acquired on the job and the result- ing surgeries. His last day will be Dec. 21. Flowerdew is going to be sorely missed, said Chief Kyle Sanders. Flowerdew has been Sand- ers' right hand man for most of his time at the department. Sgt. Matt Hansen will become the police de- partment's next lieutenant in command effective in December. This will provide an overlap of time to continue the training process and mentoring by Flowerdew. Flowerdew suffered an injury to his left shoul- der April 16, 2014 while attempting to subdue a combative suspect. He has had three previous left shoulder injuries and surgeries related to his em- ployment, according to the agenda report. Roberta Ann Draper was booked into Tehama County Jail on a felony charge of animal cruelty and misde- meanor charge of violating a court order, according to a Tehama County District At- torney Bureau of Investiga- tion press release. Tehama County Sheriff's Department Animal Regu- lation Officers assisted in- vestigators in going to the residence after the District Attorney's office received information there were an- imals on Draper's property. The 2013 court order stated that Draper was not to possess any animals, live- stock or fowl. Upon arrival about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, investigators and officers located more than a dozen dogs, cats, geese, turkey and guinea hens at Draper's property. One dog had died from poor health conditions. "The dog that died ap- peared to be completely de- hydrated," said District At- torney Chief Investigator Eric Clay. "Beyond that, it would be speculation at this point. They are doing med- ical examines on the dogs that were taken into custody but we have not received the results yet." There were several dogs in poor health with one of them not able to move on his own, according to the release. Most appeared to be underfed and there was a lack of water available for the animals. Investigators determined several of the animals were suffering from the poor health conditions and liv- ing environment and the animal regulation officers took them into protective custody. Sheriff's logs show a no- tification to the Tehama County Animal Care Cen- ter at 9:42 a.m. of 10 dogs en route to the shelter and at 12:40 p.m. there were eight puppies placed into the cus- tody of a veterinary clinic.
