She ap- peared in an episode of "How I Met Your Mother," and her voice was featured in such animated shows as "Allen Gregory," "BoJack Horse- man" and "Robot Chicken." And last year, she sup- plied voices for the animated NBC special "Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas." What a difference a year can make, since she's now headlining a series that she had a major hand in creating. Bloom also is known for her satirical mu- sic videos, which earned her the attention of screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") — which led directly to the creation of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," original- ly developed for Showtime. Q : I really enjoyed the "Friday the 13th" tele- vision series. Do any net- works still air it? — Gary Scholer, Dublin, Ohio A : The spinoff of the hor- ror-movie franchise cur- rently is one of the shows in the library of the cable chan- nel Chiller, but it's scheduled somewhat irregularly. How- ever, the good news is that when it's shown there, it's usual in a marathon of multi- ple episodes. At this writing, that's slated to happen next on Nov. 30. Q : I've heard lately about plans for a bunch of movies, like "Lethal Weap- on," being turned into TV series. Why does that happen so often? — Peter Wayne, via e-mail A : In doing that, a network gets a show with imme- diate name recognition for the audience, and that's a big selling point. However, there are lots of variables, including whether the characters are the same ... and whether actors who can approximate the original stars, or make the roles their own, are hired. Among the more success- ful transitions from movie to series have been "M*A*S*H" and "Parenthood," and of newer shows, CBS' "Limit- less" is doing well enough to have earned a full-season order. However, for every one of those, there are many others that don't make it. An example this season is Fox's "Minority Report," which had its episode order reduced despite being the first show adapted from a Steven Spiel- berg-directed film.
